Second Coming
Hi there....I'll be the first to admit - I'm not much of a poet. I wrote this poem (my first) when I was 16 - I wrote a few more (maybe 30) until my mid twenties (I'm 40 now). I started painting on canvas when I was 18 and by my mid twenties - painting had taken over as my favored mode of personal expression of the ideals and ideas that I hold true. Just wanted to share....
Second Coming
He stands alone,
he must succeed,
because he has told
himself he must,
if for no one else believes,
he still believes,
if he falls he falls,
but he's no quitter,
he will bring himself
back to his feet,
he knows the feeling of
being a loser all too well,
he also knows that feeling
is forever behind him,
he has one more chance,
that chance will not pass by,
he knows his time has come,
he will reach for it,
he will have it in his grasp,
and for once in his life,
he won't let go.

and for once in his life,
he won't let go.

Hi John
I almost missed this, I'm glad I didn't.
It's nice that you saved the poem - I bet you can still remember what you felt like when you were the 16 year old writing it. Did you save the others as well?

Thank ya kindly for taking the time to read my words of of my youth.. and you are correct - I remember exactly what I was thinking when I wrote it.
Unfortunatley, Most of the poems I did have been lost over time - a shame.. I would like to see what was on my mind at the given time.
Here are the one's I still have if you have the time. Enjoy your day!
My Birth
Riding on the thoughts that carry my soul. I followed the light back through the hole. I was born in the summer of Love. God and Lucifer were smiling up above. "You're dreaming us both," they said with a grin. "Now let us explain original sin." I listened to what they had to say, then they told me to get on my knees and pray. What a wild dream I thought when I woke. I could barely see through the cloud of smoke. A new born child with a life to make. I dream now that I am awake.
Time of Illumination
A is for the Answers, which we all seek
B is for the Beginning, when we first must meet
C is for Creation, of which we are told is the start
D is for Destiny, of which we can not part
E is for Evolution, of which there is proof
F is for a Feeling, that this is the truth
G is for God, who may be out there
H is for Humans, who don't seem to care
I is for I, you and he
J is for Jesus, what if he can see
K is for Killing, which doesn't have to be
L is for the Love, that's always in your heart
M is for the Money, that tears our world apart
N is for the Numbers, that track us from the start
O is for the Oil, for which wars have been fought
P is for the Peace, which we have always sought
Q is for the Question, what's it all about
R is for Racism, that makes us want to shout
S is for the Sun which spins our sky
T is for the Time we have before we die
U is for the Universe, of which we are all a part
V is for the Violence, which has been here from the start
W is for the Wisdom, which must be passed on
X is for the Exit we make, and then we're gone
Y is for the Why do we all have to go
Z is for the End, which is all you need to know.
No Rain in the Forest
The rain was falling
The sky falling to the ground
From out of the forest
came a thundering sound
the trees tumbling over one by one
the metal beasts grinning
where was the sun
I called out to you
please give me a hand
you just stood there
staring at the end of your own land
you opened your mouth to breathe in some air
the air that had always been there for you
but you forgot that you didn't care
you forgot
that you just stood there and stared.
Utitled
Do you know you're alive?
Follow the bees to the hive
Into the oceans you will dive
Feel the wind through your hair
See the sun and the moon stare
Smell the flowers in the air
Hear the rain touch the ground
Listen to every sound
What was lost is again found
Gliding on the clouds up above
You flew in on a white dove
Hold the hand of the one you love
The angels sing you a song
Telling you to remain strong
The journey you've chosen is long.
Untitled
The time is always near
That's why we live in fear
We're all going to die
All we can do is sigh
and wave goodbye
As fast as you can
Enter again
This world that you've known
You call it your own
You've been here before
You know what's in store
So much pain
But there's so much to gain
Flying high
Knowing I will never die
Again I hear you cry
For you, I will try.
He came for you
Because you wanted him to
You think he was something new
But what he was, was you
Lucidity
Life seems like a dream
It's over so fast
We walk around in a daze
Trying to make it last
Is it really real?
Everything we see
Everything feel
Everyone we hate
Everyone we love
What's to be our fate?
Take the time to look at the sky
Such a beautiful sight
But do it quick, before you die

Thanks for posting your poems, your beliefs really shine through. The above was my favourite - I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Summer of love makes me think of 67 - which would be true but I don't think that's what you meant - I think your speaking of your rebirth. So I wonder why it was a summer of love - love of god or a more general love, maybe it's the summer you met your wife. I like that I don't know.
I also like that lucifer is sitting with god - I'm sure he was glad to take a break from hell - the job stress would be terrible.
"I dream now that I'm awake" nice finishing line.
All the best
Cate

Hi John
Loads of potential in your poetic practice
I greatly enjoyed some pieces
Seemed like the words were
Paint splashing on a canvass
Some critics may come
And speak their mind
I hope that they
Are kind
Where did you get your glimpses
into the illusory nature of our reality
And also the reincarnation theme?
Or was I making all of that up?

Re: Second Coming
Hi Cate…. And thanks the words of encouragement! Yes, that is what I meant by ‘The Summer of Love” – I was born in August 1967 – as the overall consciousness of the world was drastically changing. Sorry – I know that you liked that you didn’t know : )Hi John

Hi Sean.. Thank ya kindly! As far as critics go – If I post something on the web I realize that it could be open to kind words and advice and also ridicule – I am open to all : ) I understand the few poems I wrote years ago are simplistic and I covered no new ground.Hi John

As far as the glimpses into the illusionary nature of our reality - When I was 25 years old I read an article on LSD in a scientific magazine (Don't recall which one). The article stated that users often experienced a oneness with God. Skeptical of course BUT Curious - I tracked some down for an experiment. The walls that are firmly set up in our mind came crashing down. Colors became sound and sound became colors. Chemically induced insanity ensued...I could not control my thoughts... could not move... a oneness with everything transpired. I stared at one of my painting's on the wall 'Time Of Illumination' (actually, the poem that sits on that painting is listed above – same name) . The painting has many colors - each color - one at a time - glowed bright as if lit from behind. As one color 'turned off' another would 'turn on' every few seconds. The painting has an A to Z poem I created on it - as the colors flicked on and off the poem changed into different languages before my eyes - languages that I did not know - over and over... as if being spelled out before me. I stared at the painting for a good 45 minutes and it did this the entire time. A profound life-changing experience. I had never imagined that perception of reality could be altered so much.
That’s not the only glimpse – and not all included phycidelics – but it was a leap forward for me.
Take care and enjoy your day!
