Re: Edinburgh Castle, July 16
I am just so excited and have bathed my every day in the music and words of Leonard.
Never thought I would have the chance to enjoy a live performance so close to home and would like to thank all who have had anything to do with the tour for making this happen.
If Leonard has time to call into beautiful and romantic Northumberland we'd be more than happy to be his tour guides.

Re: Edinburgh Castle, July 16
Hi All
I've been lucky enough to get two tickets for Edinburgh. This is a lifetime wish granted.
I've been a Leonard Cohen man for years but I can't convince my wife.
However the children appreciate him.
Me and my youngest son are going to have the time of our lives on the 16th of July.
I was looking for an example of a concert at Edinburgh Castle as I've never been to anything their.
I found one on youtube under http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6M48vtkI6Q.
Its a runrig concert and the venue looks superb.
Cant wait.
Any thoughts?

Bonnyleonard - excellent find!
I think thats the "standing" seating plan, whereas for Leonard the centre will be all-seating. I guess the lighting might be slightly less hyperactive too
My youngest/only son is my companion, but under suffrance, (pushing me in my wheelchair), so it'll be intriguing to see if the man can convert him on the night. While he loves his Muse and Gorillaz, he's the first to admit that the the Doors and Johnny Cash were probably better, but I've never pushed my Cohenmania onto anyone, least of all him.
How many others over this whole tour will be just along to see what it's all about, and how many of them will find a passion that will sustain them through good and bad times for life, just as we have. Oh how I envy them!

Just some Edinburgh info for travellers coming and disabled access:
The caastle is situated at the top of the Royal Mile, which although beautiful, is cobble stones so wheel chairs will find it difficult, you therefore have two other choices; get a taxi from whereever you are to the top, which WILL be busy and Edinburgh taxis are in the top 3 most expensive in europe OR if you're in the town before the gig, try staying around Princes street, if you are facing the castle, take a right on Princes street and walk past the castle to a street that runs perpendicular to it called Lothian Road, go up Lothian Road and take a left onto Castle Terrace and keep on the high road running right next to the castle, its a bit steep but its not cobbles!! It will bring you to about 50 yards of the castle entrance, the trip from Princess Street will take you about 30-40 mins so give yourself plenty time.
Not sure that you get free buses to the Art Galleries anymore, I'd save a fortune moving around the city if that were the case! There are plenty of Sight-Seeing Tour buses to go on, I would definitely recommend it, I go on then every summer and I live there. They cost about £8 I think, but if you have a student card then bring it cause you guys get everything cheap in Dunedin!!
Loads of nightclubs, for me the best area to hang out is not too far from the castle itself in an area called the Grassmarket, loads of pubs which appeal to different types of people and then on to the Cowgate which has a few nightclubs and is closeby any other places you want to get to.
Just ask somebody for directions to the places, they're well known.
Hope this helps.
PS You have to buy a Big Issue from the guy outside Zavvi on Princes Street, he's a top bloke.

Re: Edinburgh Castle, July 16
Thats a shame if they stopped that as it was a really good scheme imo, its nearly two years since I moved away from Edinburgh so I'm not as up on such things anymore.jikan4 wrote:Just some Edinburgh info for travellers coming and disabled access:

I'll second you're ideas for places to go out, Grassmarket was one of my favourite areas to drink in when I was living there, few good pubs on Rose St as well. Apparently Edinburgh has the most pubs per square mile in the UK and I can well believe that, never a problem to find a nice place to go out.
