Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows that the contracts have been fixed
Everybody knows it's all about the turnover
Everybody knows that the winner has already been picked
Everybody knows the war's about oil
Everybody knows it's not our soil
Everybody knows that the Taliban will always foil
Everybody knows how the soldiers toil
Everybody knows the poor are getting poorer
Everybody knows that the recession is a ditch
Everybody knows that payback is a bitch
But the rich will still stay just as rich
That's just how it goes
Everybody knows...
Everybody knows that the economy's failing
Everybody knows that the President lied
Everybody has a broken heart
As though the spirit of their country just died
Everybody knows that they're running on empty
Everybody knows there were times of plenty
Everybody knows that wealth is a velvet rose
And that factory stalls are arranged in rows
Everybody knows that love is fleeting
Everybody knows that the camera lies
Everybody knows that your partner's cheating
Everybody knows that's how love dies
Everybody knows you really love me
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Save a night or two...
Everybody knows that you've been discrete
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes...
Everybody knows...
Everybody knows that you live forever after a drink or two
Everybody Knows that you'll forgive me if I did it for you
Everybody knows that the deal is rotten
But slaves are still picking cotton
For your cool summer blouse
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the end is on the horizon
Everybody knows that it's coming fast
Everybody knows that the long honeymoon
Is a luxury of the past
Everybody knows that sin is dead
But there'll still be a meter on her bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows...
Everybody knows that the economy's in trouble
Everybody knows that it's failing fast
From the soaring Russian rouble
To the industries of the past
Everybody knows that it's time to invest
But there's nothing left in the chest
Everybody knows that we've run out of time
Everybody knows that we have to pay nature for our crime
Everybody knows...

Re: Everybody Knows (2008 version)
Hi James ~
I'm still trying to stay positive, but with the spinning I'm hearing on the greatest speech to date in the 21st century in America, it's mixed with trying not to descend into despair. With the "Con-Anyone Clintons, Win-the-Contest-at-Any-Cost Campaign," what can we expect to come? Their plan was foiled and everybody knows what they must do... except some don't care, and they would consider stealing the election to be fair.
Welcome to the Forum. I've had nowhere near the time to get caught up here, but everything in your title drew me to it.

Re: Everybody Knows (2008 version)
After listening to more spin and seeing the 'release' of Hillary's 'schedule' [that required a suit to get] and being reminded, again, of Monica Lewinsky and Bill [with Hillary home] and of WhiteWater... a song of Leonard's occurred to me, dedicated to the Clintons, including the album title "New Skin for the Old Ceremony" and possibly even the cover art, though I think I'd rather leave it unfettered. I've also decided that with so many and far better places for this song to be applied it, henceforth, ought never be thought of as applying to Leonard, again:

Well, maybe parts of it could stay with Leonard. The complimentary ones. You were the promise at dawn,
I was the morning after.
You were Jesus Christ my Lord,
I was the money lender.
You were the sensitive woman,
I was the very reverend Freud.
You were the manual orgasm,
I was the dirty little boy.
And is this what you wanted
to live in a house that is haunted
by the ghost of you and me?
Is this what you wanted ...
You were Marlon Brando,
I was Steve McQueen.
You were K.Y. Jelly,
I was Vaseline.
You were the father of modern medicine,
I was Mr. Clean.
You where the whore and the beast of Babylon,
I was Rin Tin Tin.
And is this what you wanted ...
And is this what you wanted ...
You got old and wrinkled,
I stayed seventeen.
You lusted after so many,
I lay here with one.
You defied your solitude,
I came through alone.
You said you could never love me,
I undid your gown.
And is this what you wanted ...
And is this what you wanted ...
I mean is this what you wanted ...
That's right, is this what you wanted ...
