Is it me or there is some anti-French feelings here. Or is it this recent war thing that twisted minds like this. Oh! I'll begin to be disgusted by this, and I'll understand after (why, people has the right to get wrong sometimes).

Give me back the Berlin wall, give me Staline and Saint-Paul.

Well, I'm half French and I don't feel uncomfortable at all.

BTW, we both have to admit that French people is not that generous, is it?

We all know the wry humor to be found in Leonard's songs and poetry so I am certain he would be amused.

Hello Bilbao :

If they are generous or not, I really don't know. I'm not a server or anything like this. What I often hear, is that Jews and Scottish have this reputation, though, when French waiters insist for their tip ("le service n'est pas compris, Monsieur").

Anything (without hatred hopefully) more colourful than the grayish politically correct in fashion everywhere is welcome.

Tcholcolatl, Mr. Ed's post (I think) was integreting the Tough Guy Portrait, Coco's post about Leonard being upset by a slow waiter, and Lizzytysh's remarks about Leonard's genius. (By the way Lizzytysh, I happen to agree with you!). All taking place in Mumbai, India, where Leonard was in February. It's the funniest post I have read on this message board.

and if He wants to show up with this uniform there is a reason...I believe, everyone of us has sometimes the same desire...to leave everything behind...and to escape from the Reality, which can not be controled and put in the way we want...

Yes, I have had a few years experience as a server. I think everyone should have to work in the service industry for two years. Sort of a national service. It would be an eye-opener--especially for the professional classes. It has certainly made me a lot more patient with the cashier at Wal-Mart.

Dear Tchocolatl,

The Frenchman abroad does have an unhappy reputation for being tight with a franc when it comes to tipping their waiters and waitresses. My heart would sink when I got a party of Frenchmen. It meant four hours of service and very little to show for it at the end. Not being in New York, we were not allowed to run after them with a corkscrew.

Add freshly ground cardamom seeds to coffee beans
Brew
Add one shot of Bombay Gin
Top with whipped cream as desired...not the stuff out of the can!

Is that why French waiters have to fight their tip out of the French consumers or if that's why French consumers wait for the waiter to fight is tip out of them? This looks like a national sport of some sort.

It seems useless (and propably a little bit more exhausting) to attack them with any kind of sharp or blunt instrument. Try this in an arrogant tone : "Le service n'est pas compris, Monsieur". (International Dimplomacy 101 - page 12, paragraph 2, subtitle : Your servant here, he has been told to say it clear to say it cold)
