Question for Leonard
Welcome, Mastersong! A big "oh dear" ~ I didn't realize some were fancying Leonard as being Jesus. Do you mean as in the Second Coming? I can safely say I know the answer; just not how he would go about saying it. Are you of the mind that he might be, or just curious what he would say and how?

Leonard Christ
dear liz,
actually I don't think that Cohen used to write the songs as thinking so but we the fans after listening to his songs and when we judge with the information we have on hand we (might) think like that or not think but for a sudden such ideas might come into mind. personally when i get the information about religious stuff that we hear from the people or read and check with the things going on today and the evolution of the poetry of Cohen, i say 'why not'. he is coming from a jewish family in montreal (nostradamus says that quebec will be the new jerusalem and jesus will come out from quebec) and an atheist when we check his first works but then he finds God after a long and beautiful journey and becomes a real deep believer and from the Ten New Songs we can see that there are some signs to that.
On the other hand he might be a mystic like the thousands passed before him and there might still be a lot of time for the Second coming of the jesus. Actually I don't know and that is why I would like to ask him. And when we talk such subjects with the friends we have around they just think that we have lost your mind
).
Maybe this is the only place we can talk about Cohen freely without being considered that we are fools. We are not fools but we just think...

Love,
OK, Mastersong, thanks for your explanation. I wasn't aware of that particular Nostradamus prediction. You're right that this is one of the few places we can talk about Leonard freely, without being thought to be fools ~ well, generally so, anyway
.
I have never thought of Leonard in terms of being an atheist. What specifically in his works has led you to this conclusion? My impression has been that Leonard considers Jesus to be a great teacher, a great man, a great mystic or whatever, but not the one and only Son of G~d ~ who offers the one and only access to G~d and into whatever Heaven might be.
As for the Second Coming, many things have been predicted in terms of biblical expectations, and with their not having come into being, it's apparent we are on a different time schedule. So, yes, plenty of time for that one
~ despite a number of things that could be aligned with whatever the "End Times" are purported to be.
I have the sense that Leonard would be somewhere between embarrassed and deeply humbled by the suggestion; however, I also get the sense that on some level he would understand such a question and would enjoy giving whatever his answer would be. I also think he might be amused by it.
I don't think he's the Second Coming, but if it turned out to be so, I wouldn't be disappointed. I'll find a quote and bring it to you here that you'll appreciate. It's from one of his songbooks, I believe [as I recall] the one simply titled "Leonard Cohen." I can tell you one thing, mastersong, yours beats the old, typical, blase question

Yes
, I understood that [or presumed I did], Frankie. The only reason that I continued with my own clarification was that I had considered doing so in the first place, but when you posted back, I took the opportunity as being perfect to do so in the second place
. Thanks for your completion

If I'd meet him....
If I'd meet Leonard Cohen in a cafe I'd probably be too shy to ask him anything... I think I'd peek him drinking his cofee or tea and I'd try to make sure that he in fact is not a god but a person like all of us. Of course he is a different kind of person- someone who has great talent and who has had the luck to show his ´talent to the world.
If I was brave enough to ask him something i'd like to know many things. One thing, amoung others, I'd like to know is:
How do he feel about your fans? Honestly? They see him as a god, as a genious. Do he feel as if he was a god, a teacher? Does he think that his songs are just stories or do they contain a higher message to the people of the world?
(For me personally, the songs are a great source of inspiration.)

Welcome to the forum, Greta. May you enjoy being around here, and may you actively participate in at least some of the discussions.
Leonard is a great poet and songwriter, and always a source of inspiration for many people, including most of the forum members.
And, jurica, I do not fully agree with what you wrote: Leonard, I think, knows much more about the world than most of us, but not because he is a prophet, a demon, or a god, but because he looks upon himself and the world with brutal and unrestricted honesty - only very few people will be capable of this - and because he does so for a very long time now.
Apart from that he exercised the art of making us feel the way he feels, and has become a master in that.

Hi Greta,
Welcome to the Forum!...I hope, you will enjoy here...
I think, everyone of us is able to see different holograms of this world...and may be Leonard Cohen was blessed to see many more than us and to be touched by them deeper than many others...also to express that in some very sensible way...may be this makes Him a teacher and inspiration for us and many other people...
I also will be too shy to ask Him anything...but if I have this chance I'll ask Him which hologram made the deepest scratch in His heart...and if He found some cure I'll ask Him for a piece...
