I'm really excited,(like everbody else), about the forthcoming tour.
I hope Mr.C will include Ireland on his European dates.

Re: Leonard Cohen: TOUR 2008
Hopefully he may return to Manchester UK again this year. Been in love with his music for 40 years.
Saw him at the Royal Albert Hall, London, back in 1993, awesome performance. I think he was on stage for nearly 3 hours.
Just hope there are enough tickets to go round, & that we get to be aware of them in good time.
Hope you are keeping well, Leonard, should you read this, & thanks.

Re: Leonard Cohen: TOUR 2008
Hi
Although this is my first post here I have been a fan of Leonard Cohen for quite a while.
I first discovered him back in the 70s when I was still at school. I was about 15 and went on an exchange trip to France. The older sister of girl I was staying with had 'Songs From A Room'. I loved it and bought it as soon as I got home. It was actually the only album I had for many years. In the past few years I've got others and have grown to love his songs more and more.
I have never seen Leonard Cohen live and had begun to think that I never would. So I am delighted and excited that I might actually see the great man in person.
I just hope that he announces a enough dates so that everyone who wishes to gets a chance of seeing him.

It's a leap year...and what better way to take advantage of a leap year than to wait until February 29th to announce the tour dates....
Everyone's gonna be so panicked for news on edge by then that the $175.00 ticket price isn't going to matter...

Have been a fan of leonard Cohen for more years than I care to admit. I saw him in Brighton, can anyone tell me if it was 1979 or 1980? I do remember that the evening was superb
Re: Leonard Cohen: TOUR 2008
Lorri,
That was 1979 (15th December). I wish I could have been there. To collectors of his shows this was quite a significant performance. The full set list is not known, although there is a bootleg of only 6 songs in circulation:
Memories
-. Suzanne
-. Billy Sunday
-. Joan Of Arc
-. I Tried To Leave You
-. Silent Night, Holy Night
The LClive site comments:
'unique known live performance of "Silent Night". Some songs (recorded from the soundboard) have been officially released on CD Field Commander Cohen - Tour of 1979, (©2000 Sony). There is maybe a complete soundboard tape in Sony's archives.'
Do you have any other recollections of this show?
Dave

Just checking in, too, and waiting -- but then, I've been waiting for years and years, but what's one or two more weeks, eh? Okay, it's torture... I admit it.

Thank you Davido, you have jogged my memory. I have a faint recollection now of Silent night. I remember it being cold when four of us travelled 180 miles in a Wolsey Hornet (complete with hole in the floor, letting rainwater in!) therefore it makes sense that it was winter.
I recall Suzanne and Joan of Arc being sung, still two of my favourites (along with about 25 others, how can you pick a favourite). I remember Jennifer Warnes on stage, and how beautifully she complemented Leonards voice. I also remember the wonderful viola player and the sweet sound that he created. Also remember the piano being tuned in the interval.
I have yet to experience such a spine tingling evening, despite having a wide musical taste, and regularly seeing/listening to live performances.Oh yes, memories! I need to see him again!!

Re: Leonard Cohen: TOUR 2008
I am so excited by this news but am wondering whether he will perform anywhere in the UK apart from Glastonbury, as it would be a lot easier for me to get to a concert in London than to get to Glasto (or even to get tickets for it!!). Do you think we will know dates and venues before April?
Re: Leonard Cohen: TOUR 2008
Clearly, in spite of being the shortest month of the year, February is going to be the longest month of 2008. As Daoists would say, the shortest is the longest.

The Torino (Turin) newspaper article on the previous page (25) of this thread seems to be a false alarm,
according to info we've got from Italy.

Well I had to register...I've been snooping since the beginning of January when this news broke. How many more days are left in February? This is truly the greatest angst I've experienced in a long time, waiting, waiting and waiting.
I live near Toronto but would seriously travel miles for this...I might even have to get a bank loan
I'm planning a trip to Nashville and New Orleans in May, I'm wishing for Mr. C to play the Ryman Auditorium.
Can you imagine?
Everybody wish together, or pray to the tour gods, either/or, something has to break soon

Re: Leonard Cohen: TOUR 2008
I can hardly wait the tour news ! This is my first post though I've read all since the beginning. I'm Cohenista !!!
I'd like to share my fantastic meeting with Mr Cohen in 1988. I flight from Palermo to Milano for his European Tour, 17th May, Orfeo Theatre. All the people there in heaven, delirious! After the concert I waited in vain to meet him. "No hope - said nice drum player Steve Zirkel - but you can wait here may be he''ll sign your brochure. ( He spoke from a high narrow window in the backstage theatre). After some time Mr Cohen appeared, handing over my signed brochure and spoke to me!!! I was so thrilled I could only say how fabolous was the concert and thank him. And he was gone...
I'll never forget that night!!!
My dream is to get a ticket for his first concert tour... suppose very expensive coming from Italy...

I hope that Leonard will visit Belfast or Dublin with his tour. Better still - both cities.
I have appreciated Leonards music and lyrics now since buying THE FUTURE in 1992 and since then, I have acquired his complete discography.
I wish there were concert videos available, especially the 1993 tour.
