Wonderful news.I saw Leonard in Edinburgh in 1979 as a young man of 18.Will never forget that night and can only hope I'm lucky enough to get tickets to see the great man again.

Obviously the demand for tickets will be very high, and the 'ticket agencies'/touts will be gobbling up large numbers, so does anyone know if there could be a 'presale'?

I would like to think that forum members (perhaps registered before the tour announcement - to hinder opportunists looking for a quick resale profit?) could have an opportunity to purchase tickets the day before general sale. I know this system is used by other artists, and - despite it's faults - it at least increases the chance of obtaining tickets.

I have a recurring nightmare

tickets go on sale :D

sold out in 3 minutes

available on ebay in 5 minutes

having to pay the 'opportunists premium' to ensure attendance.

But what about all the LC fans who have been fans for much longer and lurked without feeling the need to join!

I do understand your point though, and if that happens to be the case, Im gonna have to accept it and fight it out with the common folk. But I do plan on staying up refreshing the page when we know the day that tickets will be available. Im not sure Cohen will get the ebay sellers though, I mean most of the people who listen to Leonard Cohen are nice people :D

Yep, more and more artists are selling tickets direct to fans that way. Portishead, for example, were recently selling tickets via their website 48 hours before the tickets went on general release. That's the way to treat hard core fans. ;-)

With Canada and the US being the start (the Maritimes I read), I fully expect that leg of the tour to be sold out immediately. Hence, my ear so close to the source of info. Your nightmare of scalper tix is not a nightmare, it's a reality, unfortunately. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope that we are in some divine way rewarded for being such good Cohenites. Natch, there will be boots, and maybe even a live tour album, like Cohen Live - but these things take time - and I want to 'see'. I'm sure there will be all manner of media to get a good look, but there's nothing like 'being there'. Esp. for the smaller venue artists.

I think a 'presale' would be a very good idea, dharma. Many artists do favours for their fans a la Pearl Jam. But, I fully expect to fight it out with you and everyone else. I'm tall. Watch out. ;)

Linda I just love your signature quote. As someone who tries (and fails) to write meaningful heartfelt poetry, its something I can definitely read and smile about.

Ha! Thanks. Yes, when I read that, it struck a chord with me as well. As I once spoke to someone about, what I thought was 'poetry', was really just a cathartic outpouring of emotion, with a few rhymes, line breaks, etc. I was kind of hesitant to put that as a sig. here, as there are so many that write poetry. But, we all know, in our heart of hearts, that we are not Leonard - yet there are a few good poets here. But, I'm not one of them. Bukowski was. Still, it is a release of sorts to put emotion to paper, rework it and try to make something structured out of it, even if it's not shown to anyone. I enjoy the process much more now than I did a year or so ago. Yet, no one sees it but me. I have shown people the worst of the worst, just to see how bad I am at poetry. Apparently, I'm pretty bad.

I am really looking forward to this tour. I saw him in Toronto in 1986, I think, too long ago, a fantastic event, a real love-in...he was funny as well as very warm, and the music was right on. I managed to find a poster on an outdoor wall somewhere that is a treasured souvenir. It was "The Future". He told his introductions to the songs in his usual inimitable monotone..."I was sitting in an outdoor cafe in Los Angeles, drinking an alcoholic concoction from a ceramic coconut...this was a mystery I could not penetrate, as around me grew a multitude of real coconut palms..." as an introduction to "Chelsea Hotel".

Barbara,

As you wander the hallowed halls of this forum, you will find that you are a 'Cohenite', or if you prefer 'Cohenista'. I really hope some of the 'real' new members stay around for a while. Soak up the info, spread the word, etc... definitely check out the main site. There is a wealth of info, pics, partially written poems that morphed into songs years later, etc. A nice place to hang out.

And if you choose to undertake your mission as a member of the forum, as that guy from Hill Street Blues used to say, 'Be careful out there'.
