covered up with pain

that lamed his leg an opener
he used for love letters

tom. The poem had me puzzled for some time. I couldn't put my finger on it until now. It was staring me in the face.
The use of the 'forward slash' carries the poem onward. It also counterbalances the backward glances into the past life of the voice. As a pictorial reference, it works on a third level by emphasising the drag of all those 'things' which hold the voice back as the words and life have to continue on their journey, which is achieved by leaning forwards to take on the storms of life, which the voice is straining to accomodate. We all drag our old baggage around with us as we strive to make our way. The forward slashes also show how to slice away the pain we have already been through, without forgetting what has gone before. We also compartmentalise our lives and this is also shown to stunning effect. I really enjoy a piece of work which acts on many levels like this one. Many thanks to you tom.

"Bipolar is a roller-coaster ride without a seat belt. One day you're flying with the fireworks; for the next month you're being scraped off the trolley" I said that.
