Afternoon and evening approaching Christmas.

I acquiesced. The voice from the twilit radio said:
‘The Christmas we get we deserve.’
Later, on a bitter but unseasonable line,
we watched the evening burst and shine.
Being cynical and eclectic, I chose
- without hope and God knows
why – a kind of perfect greeting
which, like love, loses in repeating.
