You beat me - you got home before I did!

Wonderful evening at the intimate Green Note cafe in Camden, North London, where Leonard dropped in one evening (3 years ago?) when the band were appearing in London (the first time) - to my eternal misery, I missed him...

Charlie and Hattie well on form, gave the packed little venue a great performance, including an unplugged song or two amongst the audience (and right next to where I was standing). Really nice English girls, so nice to meet them for the first time - for me, anyway.

Thanks for the set list, John, I could only remember the names of a couple of songs that particularly struck me - 1000 Stars and In my Father's Name, though I liked pretty well everything they did.

Also fantastic to meet up with some old Cohenite friends - Judy from France, Padma, Helen who I met at the after drinks at that bar in Kensington after the RAH gig, Rotchick (Karen).

Will be buying their album when it comes out, and might even try to get a ticket for the Bloomsbury - though the smallness of the Green Note can't be beat.

An absolutely fantastic evening at Green Note! Judy was first in the queque, then Andy, then me. Soon we were joined by Padma, Karen & Alan, and other good people (you know who you are!). I really enjoyed the conversations that we had, while we waited for the doors to open. We all managed to get seats near the front, but Green Note is such a cosy intimate place that any seat has to be good. The food and wine were great as usual, and I really have to congratulate Reesa and Immy on their excellent work in running the place. Before the live music, Anny Celsi's "Tangle Free World" album was played a couple of times (I look forward to seeing Anny there too, on Sunday week). Support singer was Carsie Blanton. She's a striking and unique singer and I enjoyed her set, which was very well-received.

It's hard to write an unbiased review of the Webb Sisters, since I had already elevated them to the stature of goddesses by the interval of Leonard's first Manchester, concert! That said, I must confess that I've only come to fully appreciate how good their own work is, after listening closely to "Daylight Crossing" again recently. I've owned the "Comes in Two" E.P. for over a year, but mislaid it until this week. Thus, all of the material featured on "Savages" is very fresh for me. Hearing most of it live last night exceeded all of my expectations, and it promises to be a stunning album. The sound was superb, and it was good to witness at close quarters the interplay of Charley and Hattie's voices and their respective work on guitar and harp (their brother Brad gave back up, on percussion). They exuded both a warmth and depth of feeling, which made their set totally captivating. Towards the end, they walked right up to the crowd by the bar, and sang "I Want You to Want Me" acapella. They then sat at the side beneath the picture of Joni Mitchell and sang a beautiful rendition of the McGarrigle's "Heart Like a Wheel" (with the new framed picure of Leonard facing them).

It was an added pleasure to be able to chat with the Webb Sister's wonderful dad and delightful mother, who volunteered so much interesting information about the Webb family history, plus of course Charley and Hattie themselves who are are so genuinely appreciative of their audience. Good to see their manager, Peter Asher present also at the gig. I look forward now to the Bloomsbury concert with added anticipation. Apparently it's well on it's way to being a sell-out, so don't miss out!

Even arriving late and standing throughout it was a wonderful night. Its been a sad time for my family trying to ease our mother's slow decline into confusion, so I brought my sister along for a reminder that there were still things to cherish out there. Beautiful songs and sound, helped us both. Thanks.

Heavens above...Whispering Bob was there, and I didn't even see him! I would love to have thanked him for featuring my good friend Michael Chapman on his show, recently. Anyway, thanks, for posting the review...it seems that we've both picked up on similar points.

Wendy, I would estimate that the set was about 1 hour 15 minutes (but I may be wrong). All I know is that that time evaporated, and it went by too quick!

I can not add much to John Etherington's excellent review, other than my own experience of the night.
I bought the album "Savages" at the Las Vegas shows, in December, so have had the opportunity to really get to know the songs.
I am happy to say that I wasn't disappointed by the live show at the Green Note. Having seen and heard the girls at many concerts with Leonard, I knew they were going to put on a great show anyway. The live performance matched, and, in many areas, exceeded the quality of the CD. The intimate setting provided the ideal atmosphere to really appreciate the songs. It was great to see Hattie and Charlie as artists in their own right. They provided amusing and interesting anecdotes about themselves, and interacted warmly with the audience.
Overall a great night, the support singer Carsie Blanton was a real find for me too, at a fantastic little venue. I will be back.
Can't wait for their album release show, at Bloomsbury Theatre, in London on Sunday 15th May.
Look forward to seeing many of you there.
