i sit here feeling melancholy
listening to Leonard Cohen
not feeling lonely
or lost or sad
just revelling in the music
and thinking about this moment
in my life
beside me is my guitar
new strings beckoning
this blank sheet of paper
wanting words
or maybe just a few scribbles
doodles
something to take away the nothing
it is right now
that is how melancholy delivers you
brings you to the place
that you are
searching for a poem
maybe
or just that sense of peace
that can wash over you
the joy of a moment
of creation
words falling into spaces
whispers being spoken
a song being sung

"Clarence said a striking thing about rowing that I've always valued ... that he liked rowing because you were approaching life backward. You could clearly see the past, and you glanced quickly at the future over your shoulder.' Jim Harrison.
Re: melancholy
This is a wonderful and sweet place to wish you a very happy birthday, Vern.
I'll be writing you soon... and may your melancholy have lifted for your very special day that is all your own.
Love,
Lizzy
