Advice for newbies
Advice for newbies
People don't own threads. Let's hope no-one is so precious as to think their brilliance or fabulous authenticity must be protected.
Re: Advice for newbies
.. I believe his Lordship once told us to get off of his cloud once, though.. and he wasn't even a newbie..
.. I guess if I.F. does her guide to general Forum dysfunction.. I could maybe expand on the "his Lordship" section.. I'm sure a lot could be learned..

Re: Advice for newbies
.. on second thought.. I believe my Lordship fixation might have derailed your initial impetus for starting such a thread, which I'm sure had some validity to it.. apologies, Sir -- uh, H.. I shall go back to my little cave with the other little elves 'n things..

What is a newbie...just born?
Then what of reincarnation
I come from the worlds best forum
Where the rules were carved in stone
If you start a thread, it is your own
The energy read
In an individual thread
Comes from the instigator
To usurp the meaning
To your own
Would make you the perpetrator
The thread you discuss
Has more meaning for us
And dear king i bear no malice
Please leave us apart
Drink from your own challis
The cup i share
with this knight so rare
Is the vessel of new beginnings
And is not right not fair
To deny these feelings
I beg of you
My masters past
To release this thread to him
And may his youth be revered
Abdicate the future to him

Re: Advice for newbies
Well I have been away from the forum for a short while, and I am trying to catch up a bit :S
I happened upon this thread and just wanted to say - I dunno why this (very valid) point has needed to have been made, (concerning the fact that no-one owns a thread) but I whole-heartedly agree with you Harry.
What madness has led to such an obvious comment needing to be said? Can someone fill me in please?

Re: Advice for newbies
that's a sharp post, Alsiony. the provocation for my statement of the bleedin' obvious is that a representative of Hallmark Cards protested about "thread-stealing" and it reminded me of how it's normally the weakest writers who add a copyright symbol and then I remembered that "the whole world's mad except thee and me and I'm not so sure about thee", so I began this benign thread which you are most welcome to steal anytime you wish (which, brilliantly, means you are now incapable of stealing it as I have given consent to its appropriation).
or as someone might say
i came to steal your thread
but it really hurt my head
now the sky is red
or is it just where i have bled
the roof is made of lead
i once knew a man whose name was Fred
but i didn't catch his last name
if i knew it i hope it wouldn't spoil my rhyming scheme
or the scanning which is most important as well to i
but who dropped it anyway!!!!
it wasn't i
cos i is made of pie!
hope that clears it all up for you
Harry S
ps did you notice i put in a pun about drop and catch!!!!!!!
