Do I have to do everything myself?

Padma, I started a new thread in case this post got lost on the long one. I have spoken to Smithfields Bar and Grill. They normally close at midnight but will stay open to 1 (or possibly 2) for me. Obviously I need you to confirm. At that time it will be drinking not eating but i have asked for them to at least save a nut, a crisp and 2 olives between us.

check out this review, although I worry about "the seductively dark bar area" and hope you can behave, Padma.

the link shows a 10 minute walk from the Barbican. Do we think there will be about 50 of us?

now wish me great luck surviving an intimate luch with Lord Jeffrey Archer (and his fragrant wife- a reference that will only mean anything to the English here).

We now have two possible late bars.

The Travelodge bar is open until 1am. and I spoke with the general manger this morning and she has offered to keep the bar open later if we want.

Don't the police (or 'de bizzies' as Lizzie thinks we scousers call the bastards) usually drink in the same bars as lawyers?

Michael I hope the fragrant Lady Archer and her spouse do not hand you an envelope.

From my point of view both are fine but I think it may be better to go with the Travelodge simple because so many people are staying there and it might be closer to the Barbican. Do either of you know if they would mind if we play the guitars and (in my case) sing and wail out of tune.....? In terms of numbers - it is going to be about 50 - the list is growing longer by the day. If anyone has any preferences - please post a.s.a.p. - it's' not my call!!!! decision soon please, as Nicky the manageress needs to know in the morning. she confirms that there is no problem with guitars and singing and, no diss. to those staying at the Travellodge, but this Bar is much nicer and more intimate.

what a view from his Penthouse! stunning vista straight down the river. the place is full of original art (although I didn't see the Picasso in the bedroom) and I didn't remember to ask him if we could borrow the gaff for the Saturday.

The bar with the seductive dark bar area has won. Thank you and Ken for your efforts. The menu looks good as well. Thank goodness that's sorted. Michael - presumably you will let them know?

How come you forgot to ask Geff about his gaff? Too busy trying to sneak into the bedroom to see the Picasso, maybe? Was the fragrant flower present? Did you remember to ask them both to join us?

Sorry but after pm-ing you this morning I had to go straight out to Manchester for the day.

I see that you have decided on the lawyer's drinking den.

I've just looked at the drinks menu.

No draught beer so the big decision for me will be should I go for the 150cl bottle of Grolsch at £20 or to stick with the Dom Perignon which is a snip at £140.

I don't know why but I presumed we would be leaving the Barbican about 11, but Padma has reminded me that Leonard's nurse insists he is in bed by 9, therefor we should be in time for food as well at the Smithfield gaff, so we can listen to Dick play the guitar and Einat perform her stand-up comedy routine (simultaneously translated into one language), and then we can eat as well as drink a bit of Ken's champers (does anyone know where Ken comes from? I'm too shy to ask him) and then Diane will lead a naked conga through the world-famous Smithfield market ("meat all you can")to the Travellodge where she is going for the "eat all you can" early breakfast followed by the "puke all you can" mid-morning chuck, leading on to Uncle Henning's World Cup 1966 re-enactment to take place on the River Thames (I have completely forgotten the result, Henning. Can you remind us all, please) followed by a decent sleep with indecent dreams and finally at lunchtime on Wednesday it's back to the Barbican for Leonard's secret Cohen Unplugged solo gig (tickets £5, please email Jarrko for more details, going fast).

my mood arises from absurd local traffic jams tonight.

Well I am just in the process of re-mortgaging to pay for a drink at the designated watering hole. And the Travelodge for breakfast talk about swings and roundabouts

Ken's congestion charge not working Michael! Now there's a surprise. Has he really got a Picasso in the bedroom or is it something he threw together whilst in gaol?
