one star

It was the cooling hour, just when the rounded
Red sun sinks down behind the azure hill,
WHich then seems as if the whole earth it bounded,
Circling all nature, hush'd, and dim, and still,
With the far moutain-crescent half surrounded
On one side, and the deep sea calm and chill
Upon the other, and the rosy sky,
WIth one star sparkling through it like an eye.

Hi George....I love your images, and I've also always loved that particular hour you speak of....

I like this alot... very good imagery, and the rhyme is nice... I'm not always a fan of rhyme, if you don't do it right, it can end up sounding kinda corny, you know? ( a problem I have myself haha)
However, I thought this poem rhymed very nicely, in a very smooth way that added to the poem, instead of distracting. If I try to make my poems rhyme I may almost end up changing the wording to make it fit-- thus taking away from the poem... except I'd rather it not fit, and be what I wanted, than it fit, and rhyme. You finnesed it quite well!
Very nice.

this is beautiful! really beautiful.

(reminds me of tom waits' writing on 'alice'... especially 'watch her disappear')

I came upon this poem
and I envisaged a response.
"I like this poem"
That is my offering
for I am tired
and the day has been long

....and you're still not in the chatroom....and that makes any day longer.

A poem 'by george'
has lengthened my day
has shortened my night.

I tried to leave
but a Florida response
unearthed my return
I can see the door
to the chatroom
for I am making progress
My friends are with me
I have the technology
and the perseverence.
Just a matter of time.

Pete :)

Am I kidding myself here?

Cute poem, Pete. When your friends finish, send them over to my house, okay? I wrote notes on the door there, but the door never opened and no one ever came out. I haven't given up yet either....nor will I. :) ~ see ya' there sooner or later.....

Hi Ania....Just stopped in to point you to the Subject lines as a way of linking your Post to the one you're addressing. I just discovered it a couple days ago, but haven't really used it. However, I did start noticing where others had.

This isn't the thread where your using the Quote option was mentioned, but it's the first Post I came across from you, so just grabbed it.

another verse

Very encouraging words from everyone! below is another verse

Soft hour! which wakes the wish and melts the heart
Of those who sail the seas, on the first day
When they from their sweet friends are torn apart;
Or fills with love the pilgrim on his way
As the far bell of vesper makes him start,
Seeming to weep the dying day's decay;
Is this a fancy which our reason scorns?
Ah! surely nothing dies but something mourns!

Hi George,
Where is it that you've put this before, as I've read it. You do a nice thing with time and the hour[s].

Geoffrey, can you tell us when you will respond. George wrote this in 2002 and has been waiting patiently for your view. 14.5 years is surely long enough.
