Hello Cohen fans,
I am currently working on a cover songs database:
http://slicks.studentenweb.org/coverdb/
Anybody who feels like helping a hand by submitting covers of or by Leonard Cohen is welcome. I am especially interested in very complete information (performer + title + author + album + year)
Thanks in advance,
Waereghem

Dear Waereghem
You will find a most comprehensive listing of cover songs and tribute albums on the home site for this forum (
http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com) - Jarkko has made it one of his goals to explore this particular interest fully and so has put a lot of effort into this marvellous database!
Cheers

After a quick check, I will just add that (as of April 17th) the total tally is now 773 covers

Comprehensive... it's the least you can say. Now it's a matter of entering the data :s

I see songs performed live are also included... we're not including these in our database... have to draw a line somewhere!

A quick question: "First we take Manhattan", was it first released by Jennifer Warnes (1986) and not by Leonard Cohen (1988)?

Yes, Jennifer's version was released before Leonard's.
Live renditions are NOT included in my listing except when they are released on an album
- I don't see any difference between a studio version or a live version if they are officially published (plus I have
some bootleg entries as well - including Bob Dylan's Hallelujah)!

Thanks for the info on "Manhattan".
Well I don't include bootlegs as it would be unmanageable. If people want that specialized kind of information they have to visit your website, not mine
Btw, on the album "I'm your fan", why does it say "8. Jean-Louis Murat: Avalanche IV"? Why "IV"?

I agree on the bootleg issue; I've only included some cover
songs that I feel should be mentioned (Dylan in the first place).
Murat is singing his own French translation of "Avalanche",
the addition must have something to do with that.

What's with Will Oldham's live cover of Story Of Isaac? I think he's too important artist to not mention he performed LC!

Post it on our submissions board then... I use it as a kind of "To do" list.
