Among The Living

Shared among the living
There is sometimes
The unacknowledged feeling
Of souls lost.
And sometimes
There is the seeking
Of a way home.

As for me, Steven, I agree very much
with the sentiments of your poem
and feel it especially fine
when souls need not find
themselves amongst the dead
before they feel at home.

Your poem leaves much room for interpretation and application. Thanks for posting it. As you might guess, I've no idea as to its correctness, but what you've said resonates with me.

Lizzy,

I hope you don't mind that I've edited some of your reply into
the poem it appears to be (it resonates with me):
I feel it especially fine
when souls need not find
themselves amongst the dead
before they feel at home.

Nice poem, Lizzy. :)

My thanks to you, Steven :) .
You make me want to be
a better poet  .*

* Whoops. Only one word changed. Kinda takes away from the fun of the play on it, but credit goes to scriptwriter for Jack Nicholson's role in film "As Good as It Gets" [1997]. Have to get to bed tonite, so unable to nail down who the scriptwriter was who actually came up with the line. If it was a collaboration, this could be an all-day affair. Perhaps, a Google Genius will assist.

Lizzy,

I think that I remember the line: "You make me want to be a better man," as said
by the Nicholson character. I saw the movie when it was on TV and wasn't watching
attentively, so I've a vague recollection of the lines more poetic that may or may
not have been part of the start of your post. But, whatever the case, i.m.o., they are
nice lines.

Yes, Steven. You remember correctly [maybe you missed my preceding post :) ?]. I was being hyperbolic and facetious on the matter, as when I wrote it, I had the scene of them sitting at the restaurant table facing each other, specifically in mind. However, it required that I change one word... but changing the one word didn't mean that I didn't get the idea of the line from the movie scene. However, I don't think that Jack was the screenwriter, as well... hence, my additional comments. I was being playful with the whole thing. It was a great line... and a movie I enjoyed very much.

Thanks for your comments... I still may need to work on my 'plagiaristic' use of "petty is as petty does," as that was also heisted from "pretty is as pretty does" ~ and I have no clue who first said that! At least I did with Jack... well, again, whoever wrote Jack's lines for him.

and what friendships in that sharing!
and what vistas in that "lost"

leave me lost and searching
there-in lies my Beauty !

This is a great meditation you have created here Steven. Look where you took me.

With thanks, Matj

Mat,

That the Beauty you connect with is in a lostness and isn't put off on reaching a foundness,
well Matt, what a great meditation and statement you've put forth.
