(Hey Mr Cohen) The bar's shut

No Hero In My Head

I knew Monroe
before she dumped
the lie of Norma Jean
I heard the shot
that killed Gandhi
a coward would-have-been
Knew Lennon's stance
in a Hamburg pub
before mad '63
They convert the lot
fine tuning Heathen
a sullen God takes leave
Churchill told me
Hitler's solution
appeased a raging father
I sensed the colour
of Sahara
artistic desert carver
I caught Pele
as he fell over
as any boy will show
I know Ms Greer
I prefer tough women
to glitzy stiletto
And Spinoza once
asked me the way
I pointed to a cloud
Father Christmas
hardly ever came
a menorah was my shroud
I went with Darwin
to Galapagos
aboard H.M.S Beagle
I asked the Buddha
"Tell me more
of family upheaval"
Albert Einstein, too
oh, what a 'poet' !
he was at the burning core
I gotta' stop
it's gotta' end
no more can I adore

I am at one
at peace inside
I'm glad I'm aching free
This time I spent
in other heads
it's gone and now I'm me

As one unschooled in poetry, for me this felt brilliant, Adam.

I love everything about it, its movement, its citations and historical references, its conclusions, its feeling, everything. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Lizzy,

It ain't 'brilliant' though; just another poem.

You be good, hey

Hi Adam ~

I didn't say it was... I said it felt that way [as I read it ~ I probably should have italicized "felt," as well, for greater clarity].

Yes... trying  . You, too :) .

Adam,

This has a fresh feel to it and it is very readable. :)
