(I tried to post this before, but it wouldn't let me. If this is a double, forgive me.)
I won a first UK edition, hardcover copy of Energy of Slaves on e-bay the other day. I'm very excited.
Was I bidding against anyone here?

Hi Aisling - I did see it on Ebay when I looked it was £18 and rising how much did it go for.

I hope you treasure it and don't sell it on.

I won a bid a few weeks ago for LC's autograph on "For Annie".

My mum's name was Annie so I have a picture of my mum and next to it LC's framed autograph. Isn't it amazing how little things mean so much

Lucky you, Aisling! As one with no credit cards, I don't do online buying. A particular friend will from time-to-time assist me with some things; however, that would be way too cumbersome for me to be bidding and conveying through her.

Way cool, Paula. Perfect.

Do you know what Lizzie it was cool I was smiling for days.

It was so appropriate my mum died a few years ago and it just seemed made for me

With Annie gone whose eyes to compare with the morning sun
Not that I did compare but I do compare now she has gone

Made for me

Reading those words in that context, Paula, I realize how someone somewhere moved all aside so you could get to that poem and signature. It says so much for your relationship with your mother. I'm very glad for you that it ended up where it belonged.

regarding ebay. I look from time to time at their UK site but have never yet been successful in buying anything as the prices and postage usually go beyond my budget. However I have found a useful site for books and have bought Selected poems 1956-68, Energy of slaves, Spice box of earth and very recently Flowers for Hitler, all at specified prices of only £5 to £8.with no need for bidding. These are good condition secondhand copies.

Check out abebooks.com or abebooks.co.uk They will allow a search for a particular book or author worldwide, with your particular country listed first for stockists if requested.

It went for a ~lot~ of cash- 57 pounds, to be specific, and considering I'm in Canada, it's quite a bit of money. I really wanted it, though, and I may be able to get it signed in a few months, so for me it's worth it.

Thanks for the site link, Margaret. It's much cheaper than the one I had been using. I did a search just on LC, without specifying a title, and I was amazed by how many of his works were still available even just within the UK. Broadening the search to Canada and beyond came up with various articles on LC by others, and a couple of early song books too.

I'm not at liberty to say, unfortunately. I know something I'm not supposed to know, once it's done I'll be able to babble about it.
