Daddy Kloberpants

I fell in love before I ever met you
You can't know how I feel, you think you can.
I pictured what you'd look like and what we'd do
It's turned out better than I could have planned.

We all want someone to care about us more than anyone
Wait, that’s too serious, lets forget it and have some fun.

La la la la la la la la
Let's sing silly happy funny
La la la la la la la la
Let's be ourselves and dance
La la la la la la la la
Let's make smiling days stay sunny
La la la la la la la la
Let's make fun of our name
Let's make everything a game
I'll call myself Daddy Kloberpants.

I wouldn't be myself if you weren't there
I can’t imagine how you could love me better.
It’s not only about teaching “thank you’s” and “pleases”
It’s not only making sure you wear a sweater.

I could never share with my father like you’ve done
Wait, that’s too serious, lets forget it and have some fun.

La la la la la la la la
Let's sing silly happy funny
La la la la la la la la
Let's be ourselves and dance
La la la la la la la la
Let's make smiling days stay sunny
La la la la la la la la
Let's make fun of our name
Let's make everything a game
I'll call myself Daddy Kloberpants.

Everyone wants someone to think about us every day
Wait, that’s too serious, let’s forget it all and play.

La la la la la la la la
Let's sing silly happy funny
La la la la la la la la
Let's be ourselves and dance
La la la la la la la la
Let's make smiling days stay sunny
La la la la la la la la
Let's make fun of our name
Let's make everything a game
I'll call myself Daddy Kloberpants.

Dear John ~

I'm glad I was still here when this got posted. I was just shutting down my computer, with the Forum ~ as always ~ the last to be x'd.

If this delightful song doesn't become a family classic, tradition, and heirloom, someone is going to have to answer to someone... and I'm going to want to know why.

It's touching and funny with mere movement from one line to the next. You've captured the heart and mind of a child and what better way to say "I love you," without ever saying those words. The energy in this is irrepressibly fun; yet, I know those minor chords will come in just enough to bring a tear, as you touch on some very real, unpretend things that make your relationship with your children all the more dear.

It's ironic that your 400th went to Christopher, in response to his speaking to his mother about his love for her and being a 'Dad,' as you were writing and planning your 400th to be about being a Dad and speaking to your children about loving them. This is a fine example of the universe's perfect timing.

I love your song.

Love,
Lizzay

Welp, Daddy Kloberpants, I'll call this one the sig-song in the Kingdom of Kloberdancia. It ranks as one of your finest. It's loose and controlled; neither heavy-handed nor slight-sided either. You work a fine line finely, if you know what I mean. Lizzy's right. It shall become a family staple, nourishing and loving food for thought. What a task you set for yourself; but, what a beaut of a song you've bequeathed human(un)kind (thanks for the neo, Mr. EEC). It's terrific. It's reassuring. It makes me happy there are good fathers such as yourself on the planet; and, that's really what this song communicates: Hope, joy, potential, and multi-basking in the present, the gift it is. Lucky you and Lisa. Can I borrow Jack or David or David or Jack or David Jack or Jack David ;)?

I'll return 'em in about twenty years, promise <*BEG*>. Thank you for this lovely treat post-replete, a feast, an unforgettable sumptuostic achievement sans façon. It was worth waiting for you to finish it. I know you've been struggling with it for at least a week. You better watch it. You could wind up like LC, taking, oh, five years to finish a tune :).

Serially, though, it works because it's visceral and without conceit; there's simply a kind of joy one can only marvel still exists on this gawd-forsaken planet. I can't critique something so personal, I can only stand in awe of your courage and willingness to lay it on such a fine line. Take a bow. Both your boys shall someday give you the greatest gift of all, given the way I hear you both in your work and in our e-blabbing, the honour of being your boys. You're something else; and, that, John Klobermaniac, is the highest compliment I can pay a human being. I am blessed beyond words and so happy I know a fool such as you :).

Love You, Lisa, and KloberTots Big Lots, Judith
p.s. Now — finally, whew — I can share that treat with you, you Canuck Lover, you!!1!

You'll have to wait till the record stores open later today; but, it's officially released as of midnight:

Yes :D ... absolutely, deliciously joyous 8) , your song, John... and equally poignant 8) ~ an irresistable combination. Such unfeigned and effortless transitions from one to the other, as Judith has duly noted. You make Dad-dom look as great as it was intended to be 8) ... more than just a role ~ a relationship.

You WILL be playing and singing this in Toronto for us, right??

Love,
Lizzay

Lizzy - I could never receive a nicer compliment. Thank you. Thank you for your continued encouragement and affection towards my creativity and me as a person.

Judith - There isn't much more I can say that I haven't said over and over. It's about time I have a new "signature" song too, the one I've had for 23 years is a ditty called "Rock & Roll Doesn't Want Me, But Here I Am."

Bless you. Thank you for this gift you've given me, and I look forward to thanking you in person someday.

And I would be thrilled to perform this in TO for y'awl!

Love,

John K.

My pleasure, John. You're a good man, and I love the inherent warmth in what you write. I'm looking forward to meeting your Mrs. Kloberdanz 8) .

John, your vision of a dad is my dad and I can't tell you
what a compliment that is.

Hi Sherry - While you're right that I can't know what you mean, because I didn't know your father and I couldn't have experienced him the same way even if I had, I completely understand your compliment, and I'm humbled by it. Thank you.

Love,

John

Thanks, too, John, for the more complete story of its origin.

No songs like this were made up for us; yet, like my Dad, too, Sherry 8) :D .

My dad loved kids and all the kids, including cousins and friends and neighbours loved him. The funny thing was he loved to sing and play guitar, but no matter how hard he tried, he could only sing and play one song. But he had a wonderful sense of humour and was very talented at many other things.

Sherry, I have no doubt that your father was a wonderful man, and a great dad. Thank you for sharing these things.

John, only a Grinch doesn't like ''tra-la-la". I just happened in on my way to bed, and thought "Bo-Ho, 2 aspirin and a lay down and you'll be fine." You're touching the same place I do when I think my head is going to explode - it will pass. You look like a commercial for Advil. Wait! I know that sounded wrong, but hey? what can I say? :)

Linda.

PS: John, your sig. is a riot of wide-eyes. Love it. I'm going to be a tennis star now. 'nite.

PPS: - I can't keep my eyes open to read, I'm just looking at the pics. *sigh* We all come to that eventually.

Hi linda - Thanks for commenting on my words, but I have no idea what you're trying to say. That's ok, just thought you might want to know.

John K.

Whether "Rock & Roll" wants you or not, makes no nevermind to us. It can't have you! No way. You're ours. We all draw a line somewhere, sometimes. This is mine (and, I'm sure, many of us here feel similarly):

Songwriter John K., Forum HopeMaestro | Rock & Rope, Nope, nope, nope.
Thank you for this gift you've given me, and I look forward to thanking you in person someday.
Anything I have said or done pales in comparison with the gifts you've so freely bestowed upon we who are truly privileged and blessed to call you friend, Friend. Thank *you* for all you are, share, and elegantly do.

Love, Judith
