I was born like this
I am one of the litter
That was born to follow
Whatever would glitter

I was born like this
I am one of the litter
That was born to follow
Whatever would glitter

My niece cautioned me
all that glitters isn't gold
told her that's the consolation
for one like me growing old

I've heard that it is gold
that doesn't tarnish or rust
eventually I get to knowing
the glitter I can trust

Trust???

I asked an old Serbo/Russian
"who can I trust?"
He answered me "honestly"...

Mat,
I only trust myself
25%

25% impresses me greatly

Rabbi Pinhas wrote that the hardest thing that he ever had to do was to stop lying. He said that it took him eleven (not sure of the exact number) years and he had to break every bone in his body but that at last he found a way out.

Thanks for the help with my poem James and Mat. It just occured to me that what looks like glitter might be a crack in something that is letting in light rather than reflecting it.

By you writing "He never broke every bone in his body, that is untrustworthy information" Makes yourself a little untrustworthy because even if he did or if he didn't your statement would be wrong.

See how hard it is not to lie. That is why I was having such a hard time swallowing Mat's Russian friend's claim of 25% to be an honest one.

I can't even trust the poet.

The light of our own fallability ?

Let that be a lesson to you about trusting others.

The Light? How should I know?
Maybe it is the tiny little, way less than 25%, light of trust.
maybe i should stick with the gold

Growth

I think it is called growth Mat, the poem has grown. Does your Russian stagnate at 25% or can he one day say I trust myself 35%? My dad plays freecell and has his average at 99%, Mathematically he can never reach a perfect 100% because he has failed to get it out from woe to go, but he still plays to reach 100% for some reason.

But then perhaps this is the one time your Russian faulters, perhaps his self assesment is purely for the possibility of wrong doing; a valuable meter to remind ourselves of our human nature.

Yes as Rabbi Pinhas would say "What you pursue, you don't get. But what you allow to grow slowly in its own way, comes to you."

Maybe it is time for me to stop following that glitter and let it come to me.

But can I trust him?

maybe?

The Russian was really referring to the fact that :
If it is so difficult to trust ones own understanding of one's-self
and our own motive:

Then how difficult is it to trust and understand the motive of another human being?
Therefore, place trust in people; cautiously, if you deem the matter important.

choice

How much of a choice do we have, trust is an inherent part of life whether we accept that we trust or whether it is intuitive to do so with some people and with others less so, in business do we trust as much as we do in love? You may fart in the bedroom but to do so in the boardroom may not go over so well, but surely that is paradoxical also.

I like the new ending Jack, dawn is a beautiful moment to find new light and new possibility.
