I saw Bert Jansch play in Cardiff on Tuesday. If anyone gets the chance to see his tour I urge you to do so. He has a new album released this month that features a new generation of musicians he has influenced, including Beth Orton and Devendra Banhart, check it out.

i won a competition for tickets to a bert jansch concert on essex radio last year - had to recognise the artist playing the music and clever old me phoned in and won said tickets. unfortunately was unable to make the concert and had to give them back to the box office. perhaps he will make this part of the world again.

I may go and see him in Birkenhead in November. There is an international guitar festival which takes place every year there and has some excellent musicians performing.

Shane, I just have to know: Is there anyone in music who you are not familiar with??? I've read so many of your posts, and you seem to know 'everyone'. Come to think of it, everyone seems to know everyone. I've missed out on soooo music lately. I'm catching up though.

the festival sounds interesting - i love the sound of the guitar whether plugged, unplugged, classic, rock, folk or blues. but WHERE is birkenhead? we southeners dont know where anywhere is north of watford... lol

Any guitar fest. sounds interesting, and as I've said time and again, you lot over there, have it quite lucky in that it's just a short journey from one to the next. We here, in the land of the cold, and the vast, must pick our holidays and jaunts far in advance, as there is so much travel involved. Hope it turns out to be a great fest.

- ha! back stage passes for all (free beer on the side for those who can make it). It's an adventure alright. But a lovely distraction. It's called a 'parlour' guitar, smaller than a full size, which is perfect for woman. It has a lot of resonance and doesn't really need a pickup - so I best learn to sing - unless you or someone else does? You know? To drown out the sound of my guitar?

I heard Bill Wyman's band (although they're pretty low key this side of the pond), and the're really terrific. Much more bluesy than the Stones. You guys get all the luck! I can hardly imagine anything more intriguing than a guitar festival. What a wonderful range of styles, there must be. I'm sure I'll be playing there next year.
