Now, I haven't heard any Buffy St. Marie songs since the 70's (Soldier Blue?)
Today, on the radio (it all happens on radio 2 !!) I found myself listening to a wonderful song and made sure I caught the artist at the end.
Lo and behold it was Buffy St Marie but the presenter did not mention the name of the song.
I don't know if it was an old song or a new song but it was one of those occasions when I thought...'I want that song!!!!'
I made a mental note of some of one line in the lyrics
"..angels on the take, gangsters............."
That's all I got.... "angels on the take" could have been Cohen
I've searched the web but no joy. Found her albums but no lyrics.
Anyone out there help me on this????
Thankyou in anticipation

It's "God is alive, magic is a foot" (taken from Beautiful Losers)
Lyrics are on this site at

and Buffy's two versions are listed at

Searching lyrics on Google it's very important to input quotation marks around the quote i've found like "angels on the take" and then "lyrics" without quotations like this here...

You're a star
This is the song. ....."The Big Ones Get Away"
I probably misled jarkko into thinking it was a cohen piece by mentioning that the particular line could have been a cohen line. But he led me into other avenues that I have been exploring since
Now to find it in the shops!!!
Thanks again

http://www.insurgentcountry.com/buffy_s ... tories.htm is from an Insurgent Country site. No Depression (it is a music genre), alt. country and stuff like that was always my fav genre of music until i happened upon LC. And LC is a genre all unto his own to me.

I searched the record stores to no avail but tracked it down at Amazon.
Buffy St Marie....'Coincidence and likely stories' cd from 1992..her 'latest' album I think.
Amazon delivered in 2 days flat and what a find!!!
Not only does the song I heard on the radio, 'The Big Ones Get Away' continue to truly impress (incidentally, it has been played on the radio a few times since) but there are so many other excellent songs on the album.
Another cd I bought a while ago as a result of hearing one song on the radio was by Thea Gilmore, 'Rules for Jokers'...another excellent find.
But none of these surpass an album I discovered by Wendy Stark, 'Child of Transference'.
There is so much good music out there but too easy to miss.
