WRITTEN AFTER SEEING A MOVIE ABOUT LEONARD CALLED “I’M YOUR MAN”.
Take the Leonard Cohen challenge
Says a voice in my head
Take the Leonard Cohen challenge
And that being said
Why not Bob Dylan
Who had similar fire?
Why not Bob Dylan
He too could inspire?
No, take the Leonard Cohen challenge
I hear once again
Take the Leonard Cohen challenge
So what is it then?
Bob Dylan began with words of gold
His music embellished the stories he told
But life got in the way
and blanked out the day
that he should have redeemed
or that’s how it seemed
for a poet who just got old.
Leonard on the other hand
Went through the fire and emerged
In a new land
Life did not conquer his muse
But he rose from his ashes
With a bright dirge
A sad but hopeful song
Of a venerable man
Who has learned
To survive the burn.
Take the Leonard Cohen challenge!
The voice revives
Take the Leonard Cohen challenge
And keep poetry alive.
Take the Leonard Cohen challenge

Take the Leonard Cohen challenge
