My poem Destiny

Sometimes, when I feel like writing, I may have a particular idea or a subject in mind, but I don't give much thought beforehand as to the words I am going to write. I just start typing, and see what comes out of the recesses of my mind. One day a few years ago I felt like writing, but I had no particular subject in mind. I sat down and began pressing the keys and was surprised at the results...I think I answered some of my own questions about life.
This is what appeared on my screen:
Destiny
Sometimes I ponder on what
fate has in store for me.
What forces beyond our ken
are at work in this world?
Is my destiny already foretold,
or do I write it with my own decisions?
If my destiny is already written,
should I just go along for the ride?
Then, why do I have to make decisions
toward an end already decided?
Ah, now I think I understand...
the destination may have been decided upon.
But, how I get there and how quickly I arrive
is up to me, resulting from my decisions.
So, it seems to me that I may play an important
part in fulfilling my own destiny.
Am I wise enough to take the non-stop
flight to my final destination?
No, I'm not that wise. I see that I am
destined to travel slowly across country.
I must choose my own route, stopping along
the way to sample the flavors of life.
I know that I will eventually reach my final
destination...somehow I will find the way.
But, who I touch, and what I experience
on the way is up to me and me alone.
May I have the wisdom, at each fork in
the road, to make the right choices.
All I can ask is that the journey be a happy one,
and that I make my way with the ones I love.
