Just finished listening to the CBC interview. It was excellent.

Leonard spoke of Suzanne, the early days, being recognized as a songwriter, living in the monastery with Roshi, and he read some of his poems.

I really enjoyed listening to his penetrating voice.

Thanks, Tri-me. Problem is that by the time it's 8:00 where you're at, I'll be at home in bed ... with no sound available, even if I stayed up. Oh, well.

He is certainly everywhere these days, his new management does not steal his money, certainly. And he is not lazy about his "ordinary job".

the show is 8pm local time so listen to Toronto at 8pm your time. There is one hour difference between you and me, might be too late, but if you catch this and it is 9pm your time listen to Winnipeg for central time.

Hopefully it will be archived, it is a good interview.

I went ahead to my second job, and been home about 15 minutes. Now approximately 9:55 PM, but once 6:00 PM arrives, I have no sound, regardless. No sound on my home computer.

Just caught the evening rebroadcast of the interview. This was a treat. You feel the man has changed. Nothing here of the "dylanesque" arrogance of the interviews of his younger years. It was intimate, respectfull, profond. There is a very honest human quality about him now it seems. Not that it probably wasn't there before, but it's really striking now, a wisdom of some sort. You can feel throughout the hour or so that the interview lasts, how zen has transformed him deeply.

The few minutes during which he talks about Irving Layton are very touching.

I'll have to listen to it again or read the transcript but it seemed to me that at the end of the interview he almost expressed and opinion on the question of Quebec that is different from what we remembered of him.

He's really all over the place these days. It may not be what he wants but it's working, and it's really nice to see the public reaction to his coming out. The message here is clearly, we've missed you Mr Cohen. I think he evidently felt this love at the Gala and was deeply moved by it.

Maybe it is for us, public and fans, to make him feel that his forced come back will not be just a bread and butter job, but that he really has been awaited for to long.

Hope the interview will be available in some form. It is really a gem. Preferably a recording. The tone and nuances of his voice are essential here to get the feeling of it.

"I may have made this up but I think it's true." That cracked me up.
I also enjoyed him talking about how form is an opportunity to go deeper. I have thought that too when I have read some poetry that to me seems to just be prose strewn down the page. He said a lot of interesting things as always.
The thing about us living in a time of belligerent opinions and people decide what association they will have with you based on them is a good point also. It's something I've noticed but never would have been able to state that clearly.

Oh, wow. It just started snowing here! That's pretty damn neat to be listening to Leonard Cohen and staring out the window and have it start snowing. It doesn't snow much here. When it does, I'm usually not watching as it begins. But listening to Leonard pontificate as it snows is something that I'm now grateful for.
