Recently, I discovered an artist called Erica Pomerance, who only released
one album in the 1960s (reissued on CD in 2002). Erica's music is somewhat
bizarre, in an experimental folk vein (30 sec. clips can be heard at this

) ... but what interested me especially, is that she grew up in Montreal,
and there's a song on her album called "To Leonard From Hospital".

And, indeed, the song is dedicated to Mr. Cohen, whom Pomerance spent time
with around the time before LC released his first album. There's an

Perhaps the song could be added to your list of 'Songs About Leonard Cohen'?
Unfortunately, I can't find the lyrics of the curiously titled song, nor
have I heard the whole "To Leonard From Hospital", since I don't own the
complete Pomerance album (yet).

Thank you Christian, for this introduction to Erica Pomerance via Jarkko.
Although it took her connection to LC to become aware of her work, it is obvious she is an accomplished, dedicated, and complicated woman who continues to work at her craft. I look forward to learning more about her. Her connection to LC doesn't interest me as much why I had never heard of her before. That's America and the American music scene at work I guess.
Thanks for bringing her to the attention of this forum.

You can still buy a CD of her record from http://www.espdisk.com , the company that recorded her. They are making CDR's of their whole far-out LP catalogue. The cover is interesting too, rather spacey-psychedelic b/w copulation graphic. I remember meeting Erica when I worked for ESP writing publicity ('68 or '69)-- she was dark haired, feisty, outspoken, talked a lot and was still talking about Leonard if I remember it. Through the grapevine I heard she was married, moved back to Canada, was maybe, a teacher ( not sure) something utterly, normal, bourgeois, un-sixties like. Glad she survived and so did her music!

That's great that she's been so active and the news I received wasn't true except that she did return to Canada. I will pass the news on to the fellow who told me about her when see him again. He was also an ESP musician and off-off broadway actor and playwright. I guess the internet is best grapevine.
On reading the Blastitude.com interview I see that the fellow I heard the news from was none other than her ex-boyfriend. So maybe it was the sour grapevine.
