There's no greater gift a parent can give a child than to really
really listen. Wonderful poem and story to go with it, John

It is difficult to 'really, really, listen' when your head is buzzing with all the thoughts and frustrations and activities of the day. Difficult to put all that aside, no matter how much you want to, and give your full attention to a child.
You come home from work, and you want rest; peace; calm; time to yourself, to just be YOU.
And that isn't what happens. Your wife needs you to help with the younger child so she can get a little peace - caring for a two-year-old all day is exceedingly demanding and exhausting - and your older son needs not only your help with his school work, but also your time to just be with him, to do nice things together.
It is hard to put yourself aside and be what everyone else needs you to be.
But a good parent has no choice.
(((Warm hugs)))

Thanks for sharing this personal story and honest poem, John.
It's a challenge for you, I can see that; but a worthwhile one, and you can see that.
Love,
Lizzay

A warm (hug) from me, too, (John)

Is it still okay to give one the second time around

I've been there, John. And I have an ex-son-in-law who has been bringing up 2 sons on his own since the youngest was 3. I have some idea how you feel.
Have another (((HUG)))
You are more than welcome to them - and I wish I could offer more than internet hugs.

Thank you Lizzay...although you didn't give me a hug in full view of the forum, your posts to me are always full of warm hugs, and I appreciate your kindness.

Dear John ~
Thank you very much for your own, kind words. I'm glad.
Here is a (((warm hug))) for (((you))), in full view of the Forum.
And a (((warm hug))) for (((Jack))), (((David))), and (((your wife))).
At the end of any given day, I know you all can use one. You have my admiration for the way you're pulling together to give your children and each other the love you all need, the same as we do.
(((Love to you and your family, John)))
