Weary Birthday Blues....a poem

A couple of years ago a long distance friend of mine had a birthday that creeped up on me. We both like Langston Hughes, so i played around and came up with this. It is an obvious bit of "borrowing" from Hughes' jazzy style.

Weary Birthday Blues
(With apologies to Langston Hughes)

Yeah....
got dem' blues
Dem' weary birthday blues
shufflin' along the years
counting D' beats, D' days,
the maddening screech of worn out brakes
telling your fortune.
Lady,
there is no stop at this station.
Dig it?
That crazy jazz of candles
torchin' top that cake
don't make for no gettin younger
just one direction to go
just one way to go
The saxophone cries
lonely,
on a dark Manhattan night
I-lean your birthday
and all that jazz are
cool, man,
Alright.

WOW. I had this exact experience on my 8th birthday. You've captured the mood at my party exactly.
