A beautiful animation Geist

Geist is actually an animation, as it was made with a Nikon still camera where 1500 individual photographs were taken of the actors. After the photographs were taken, each one was imported into Photoshop and treated individually. When each image was ready, they were all imported into Final Cut Pro as JPG photographs and assembled on a normal film timeline.

This process is quite labour intensive, but unlike the low resolution of digital video or video mode on point and shoot digital cameras, this still photo animation process is high resolution, suitable for transfer to 35mm film stock.

Thanks Tri-Me, I enjoyed that- watched it twice. Very atmospheric and calming, especially with the haunting music. The ending, looking up through the backlit trees, is perfect. (I love old cameras, too.)

Cheers,

Diane

I am in New York now, its raining but having a great time. I am
presenting geist at the New York independent film festival this week!
It is a gem I hope he can find a distributer get paid a bucket or pail of money and make more. I admire the people who work in animation. There were others at the festival but not all the artist have web sites like this.

I was looking for the author of a poem and saw this post. I rechecked and the film is on line again. My computer did not do it justice, but it is still an amazing and eerie short. I cannot imagine the work that went into it.

Just thought this could fit here since the topic is still photo animation.

Sia's music clip of her song Breathe me. Millions of people cried on this music on the very last episode of Six Feet Under. The links to the clip are in the middle of the page.
