Cannot stand pretending

I cannot stand pretending
- what mean and crazy
thought -
my heart is offered
daily
alone the mind
is bought
So utterly
affected
I'm crazy, torn
and free
this heart goes on
pretending
the song was made
for thee
I cannot stand defending
the mean and crazy
thought:
the modern love of reason
the need of space,
the court
I cannot stand suspending
The revelated
Court
his mercy offered
daily:
that law gives love
a thought
I cannot help attending
The song I never
Caught
I cannot help pretending
A brain behind
The thought
So utterly
affected
I'm crazy, torn
and free
this heart goes on
pretending
the song was made
for thee

Is this by any chance set to music, as well, Peter?

It certainly should be set to music! You are right, Lizzy. It has the cadences and feel of song, doesn't it?

Actually I am working hard on a tune for this lyric, but its not there yet. In the meantime I like to sing it to the melody of "Seems so Long ago Nancy". Leonards melody is so beautiful, it always brings tears to my eyes.

I just tried it...it seems to work

. Even tugs on the heart a little more.

Hi Peter
Yeah, not bad, considering the inspiration was my poem:
Coeur Cassé.
A few of yours have started as comments on mine, haven't they

Hi genelle,
I guess my text started as a comment on your words, and then ended as an answer
you :"Pretend you're not affected
that it doesn't mean a thing
when a heart offered freely
cracks in the cold again"
me "I cannot stand pretending
- what mean and crazy
thought -
my heart is offered
daily
alone the mind
is bought
So utterly
affected
I'm crazy, torn
and free
this heart goes on
pretending
the song was made
for thee
I cannot stand defending
the mean and crazy
thought:
the modern love of reason
the need of space,
the court
I cannot stand suspending
The revelated
Court
his mercy offered
daily:
that law gives love
a thought
I cannot help attending
The song I never
Caught"
you: "I'll pretend I'm not affected
that it doesn't mean a thing
for the heart I offered freely
to be frozen out again"
Me"I cannot help pretending
A brain behind
The thought
So utterly
affected
I'm crazy, torn
and free
this heart goes on
pretending
the song was made
for thee"

Thanks Peter, it was a good answer
The irony is that it didn't come from the actual subject of the poem -- totally ignored, still
