The Ties That Bind

I detest you and your kind, you reek of defeat,
and I refuse to surrender to your corrupt ideals.
I have heard so many things I dare not repeat,
and I am no longer fascinated by your ordeals.
You made every compromise dictated by fear,
you followed every desire to an illogical end.
You were a cowering worm seemingly sincere
but I underestimated your capacity to pretend.

Bastard son of a deceitful tradition, you sank
into vivid obsessions that offered very little.
You grew bored with life, so sullen and frank,
disposed towards judgement, prone to belittle.
I cannot tolerate your frequent lack of respect
for the mutual sanctity of one another’s heart.
You betrayed me at every turn, now I expect
nothing from you, I curse you with all my art.

My anger is intense, inviolable, so justified,
and you deserve the full force of its disgust.
And I will depend on Providence to provide
some sense of justice for me that I can trust.
I prayed for you but I am yet to forgive how
you remorselessly sought to end your life.
We are forever at odds, it is impossible now
to not see you as an implacable foe of strife.
