Sincerely, L. Cohen....a poem

I've been working on this a couple of weeks. I stuck a toothpick in it, and think it may be done (haha). This is my first post. I discovered Sir Cohen a little over a year ago and it's been a wonderful ride. Here is my humble poem:

Sincerely, L. Cohen

A rare bird of words and notes
So generous; lending us all that Famous Blue coat.

A grin reaper of rhyme and desperation
My savior, O bard, my medication.
Important as air, Needless as liquor
My BloodyMary, My merlot, My handstanding trickster.

Yearning for you an Art,,,Many portraits you have shared
One year now in your museum whose dust I proudly wear.
The windows are stained with a mysterious quote
One I heard, or saw, or Myself might have wrote:

"Angels ignore me and Devils deplore me
A soul just searching for Doves."

A Stranger to me and You to thee, our eyes will never touch
Destiny played the radio that day your Anthem started my watch.
Tangled in chords at the gape of a cave,
I fall to your truths and rise to the grave.

I'll keep shadowing roses and drinking their rain, listening for the knell
of poems of songs and laughs and wrongs and rights and living hells.
My effortless companion, who asks nothing much from me
Except a heart, a broken night and a never ending need.

(the end)

Dear Laurie,

Your tribute poem ~ so beautiful, so well considered. It takes me back to when I first discovered Leonard, and brings me through to today, as those original emotions remain. Thanks so much for sharing your honouring of this man and his words, his music, his song.

Thanks for your comments Lizzy. Sharing poetry with "strangers" is a real leap of faith. Glad you could relate. Regards, Laurie

We can all relate Laurie. Your poem encapsulate so much of the feeling we all have for Leonard.
