Fabrizio De André, one of the greatest Italian singer-songwriters ever, recorded 3 of the Cohen songs in Italian. On the album titled "Canzoni" (1974.) there are Suzanne and Giovanna De Arco, and on "Volume 8" (1975.) you can find Nancy. I think he did the great job! Fabrizio rules!!!

I have heard lots of Fabrizio LC covers (and other songs, too) in French, but not in Italian. Sadly, didn't Fabrizio die a few years ago after a very short illness? I hven't kept up, but I seem to remember something about it.

Sorry.. I just combined and confused two totally different people... Fabrizio De Andre (the Italian) and Graeme Allwright (the Frenchman)... sigh. But they both love (loved) and admire (admired) LC.

Unfortunately De André died, it think it was in 1996.

He is Greek, but nobody ever put Mikas Theodorakis in France!!
Moustaki really sounds greek; it isn't hard to make a mistake...

Hehe.. well, I really do know that Georges Moustaki is French and Mikis Theodorakis is Greek.. I don't know a lot after all these years, but that much I know. ... thanks to my dear friend Henning, who introduced me to these two amazing artists.

And Graeme Allwright is not French he is a Kiwi (from New-Zealand, a New-Zealander to be more politically correct) although he is (yes he is still on the stages) doing his career mostly in French and in France. The Frenchies got the chance to have Leonard Cohen translated by a musician which is an anglophone by birth and a francophone by chance. This guy is Great, with a big G. Really. And I did not have a brain wash on the FLCS, he really is.

The whole thing has gone a little off-topic, so Georges Moustaki became the main subject instead of Fabrizio De André and his excellent LC covers in italian!!

4 years later, I have just discovered Fabrizio de Andre, and I love him. His version of Suzanne is great and Ornella Vanoni singing famous blue raincoat is just beautiful. I don't know enough Italian to know what Ornella had to do with Fabrizio but maybe one of our Italian speakers could let me know. I thought it may be that Fabrizio translated the song and Ornella sang it but not sure.
