A Boy on Austin Friars Street, Mullingar
David! David! a boy shouts,
His older sister, embarrassed,
Shoves him on to avoid a pram.
But he is insistent. David! David!
He waves at a young man in
A souped-up BMW, metallic blue.
The boy smiles a beam of sunlight,
He has been recognised with a wink
And a suave nod of the head.
The boy has been recognised,
The self made alive to itself,
By a young man, in metallic blue.
