May I suggest the phrase "good sense", rather than "common sense"? "Common" implies that sensibleness such as theirs is, well, common, and yet, evidence may suggest otherwise!

...here is a scan from a small pamphlet recently picked up at a religious meeting. it is called 'ultimate questions' written by fear mongerer john blanchard. it's intention is to recruit, but is instead a frightening example of how to bully impressionable sheeple into swallowing church dogma.

Yes, excrement like that, and the despicable people who espouse such garbage, are absolutely repugnant to me. Love thy neighbour, unless they happen to disagree with your religious fanaticism, in which case, condemn them to hell! Such charming sentiments.

repugnant is a great word, and in this instance excrement to describe these bullying tactics is perfect!

More outdoor news to report: Right on time, at the beginning of April, the marsh marigolds started blooming. Deep yellow flowers with shiny green leaves in case you've never seen any. One of the rare instances where we planted something in just the proper spot (soil, moisture, sun, etc.) and it thrived. Having no smart phone or camera, I cannot include a picture. Oh, maybe someone can draw one, or even do a nice watercolor--I mean watercolour--painting to sooth us in our solitude. Maybe.

Hi, 4! A couple of months ago, I did a mixed media picture of some marsh marigolds. I remembered your request, and so, although it's a bit late (four years on...), here you go! This one is a linocut print with watercolour pencil. Cheers!

I didn't actually expect any picture I posted here to be subject to criticism -- just sharing something colourful that might brighten someone's day -- and so, you know, take it or leave it! (I was being sarcastic when I thanked you for your critique. ).

Incidentally, it was merely a coincidence that I was able to comply with your earlier request: I made the picture in an art class in which the marsh marigolds happened to be one of several options from which we could choose, and I thought it made for a fun and cheery subject! I actually made a few in different colours (and I could easily make more in any colour combination), but I am rather fond of the ultra-colourful version that I posted (which, in reality, does not have a red printed background, but neon-hot-pink, which refused to show up as such in the photo).

By the way, this week is the 200th Anniversary of the very first performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, at which Beethoven himself was conducting! In celebration, I have been listening to it, and I encourage everyone else to do the same! It is such a remarkable piece of music, truly one of the greatest musical works ever created, and by the greatest composer who ever lived! It never ceases to enthral me!

it's nice to observe how enthusiastic people can be about music; it is absolutely one of life's great pleasures.

unusual to have lyrics in a beethoven melody. as a member of a church choir we sang 'ode to joy' - translated into norwegian. i know the words are not beethoven's, but the message is quite positive and religious. i don't know why we didn't keep the original language, especially as we also sang bach's 'jesu, meine freude' - in german.
