the joan of arc pic? good question! well, probably the flames. it is, after all, the portrayal of a barbaric execution, one of the most shameful events the english have done. a fabricated conviction wholeheartedly approved of by the clergy - all men. those evil bastards knew very well she was deeply religious, and yet convicted her of heresy - and must have enjoyed the spectacle of watching her burn.
a couple of sketches of lee harvey oswald's murder have also appeared over time, but they seemed more tolerable. it is not good to unnecessarily upset people - hence the hesitation - but leonard wrote his song about the killing of joan of arc so carefully and poetically that illustrating the scene was too great a temptation to resist. upon completion it was necessary to decide whether or not to share it.

It could be argued there's a difference between seeing the execution & hearing Leonard sing a beautiful song about it. I'd put out there that your flames hold some beauty too. But not everybody can dissociate good as me.Geoffrey wrote: ↑Thu Sep 18, 2025 11:51 pm well, probably the flames.

a very good point, abby - thank you for this! nobody but leonard could have treated that shameful episode with such beauty. unfortunately, shameful episodes have always been abundant in our world. here is another, made after recently watching a royal banquet

Your friend resembles American comedian Martin Mull (RIP). Out of curiosity, what music was he performing?

yes, there does seem to be a slight resemblance to that comedian, though he wasn't familiar before now.
the lighting was poor, and with only a cheap mobile phone available, just a single photograph was taken. upon returning home, it became clear that the picture quality was poor, but perhaps good enough to use as a base for a sketch. it resulted in his likeness becoming captured quite well (see below).
>Out of curiosity, what music was he performing?
he performed two sets: the first consisted of norwegian translations of several dylan songs, the second featured a selection of his own compositions (in norwegian).
thank you for being interested and writing
