Has anyone heard this singer/muso? I just heard a few songs, and I am hooked. Worth a listen.

Hi Insanitor,

I've not heard of them/him/her/it? Where did you happen across this? Radio or in your collection?

Linda.

Hiya

Now in my collection. :) A friend made a copy (sirens in the background) of her CD and sent it to me. Devendra (he) is young, about 24, and sounds like no-one else but reminds me sometimes of Ben Harper and someone else I can't place. He has had a pretty interesting life.

A lyric is going round and round in my head:

"it's like finding hope, in an old folk song, that you've never heard, still you know all the words (and for sure you can sing along)"

I can't describe him - but I'm sure you can find his stuff.

Hiya,

Yes, I'm familiar with Ben Harper. Shouldn't be hard to find.

Like your sig.

Devendra Banhart is getting a lot of attention on the indies rock scene and is respected as a new singer/songwriter. He is he son of eastern mystic hippies whose guru named him Devendra. Groovy. Will Oldham is another known name in that area. My opinion is more media invented mystique than music. But my favorite, and often acclaimed as the best is 29 year old Jeffrey Lewis, signed to Rough Trade in England , has 2 CDs out, is at work on a third, and is the author of the Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song, a kind of tribute to Leonard Cohen. After Jeff's name they say not just "genius" but "fucking genius." Amazing comic book creator as well as musician. He has recorded with Devendra who is on his box set. Check him out.
