November 1918
(for us)
The Great War stops
on the eleventh hour
on the eleventh day.
The Treaty signed.
Allies and the Axis
in the carriage
of an old train.
10 million dead -
so many soldiers,
and the civilians.
No atomic bomb,
but mustard gas
machine gun
aeroplane - all
approved by the
elite.
Who paid the price?
The kaiser or pope
or the president?
Was it some prince
in Sarajevo? Or
king & prime minister
of the Empire?
As 11 o'clock nears
we remember WW1.
We remember war,
all of our wars -
brother killing brother
Cain against Abel.
Because, in our hearts
we all obeyed Daddy,
or was it Mummy?
And we didn't cry.
Who was free
lads and ladies,
who was free?
