It's humorous, don't worry ;-)

I've googled it a bit and I couldn't find this quote..I don't think he actually said it...

That's a very nice collection of research work, Goldin. Thanks a lot!

Just had a look into a dozen or so of these references, and found them quite helpful.

No wonder that "One of us cannot be wrong" got no really conclusive comment since it is a gorgeous koan, requiring a bit of homework to be done...

Here some of my second thoughts concerning:

"Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows"

and concerning:

"Well my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play
And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on
I'm just paying my rent every day
Oh in the Tower of Song"

They are both on the album "I'm Your Man", with the title song saying:

"If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you"

Now Paul Simon, in his song "The Boxer", says:

"I am just a poor boy
Though my story’s seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest"

and:

"Asking only workman’s wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers
Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there"

But Seventh Avenue in New York City, to my very best knowledge, is not exactly a red-light district; and so the "whores" are presumably not exactly normal streetwalkers, mothering "a poor boy" (nor a grey-haired man)...
