I wouldn't worry, Geoffrey. Leonard is a humble man, and he would probably be the first to insist that he is no "saint", and so I do not think that he would mind knowing that it is Bob up there in the dress, and not him.

Besides, considering the way that many of Leonard's admirers think of him, depicting him as a mere "saint" would be a demotion, don't you think?

bless you, LisaLCFan and cohenadmirer, it would not surprise me if these comments were music to leonard's ears. all these years it is as if leonard was to dylan what salieri was to mozart - placed in the background through no fault of his own. imagine the humiliation leonard has endured, the torment he has suffered while pretending it doesn't matter. the fact that people say dylan is wearing a dress, or that his statue looks nothing like him, must give leonard much consolation. you are good people; thank you so much!

I know from talking with his Bobness that he is terribly frightened of heights, whether as a statue on a church roof, or in actual life, so my conclusion has to be, it's a total load of cobblers but there you go....

I'm not sure how many here have been to a Dylan concert lately but if you have you will know that the stage lighting is very low. He may have an intense dislike of bright light , so even as a statue being on top of a church would be very very uncomfortable.

hello vicomte and cohenadmirer. according to the information above: "The statue was modelled on the American musician Bob Dylan, as an expression of the sculptor's support for Dylan's opposition to the Vietnam War." my question is: a whole lot of prominent people protested against the vietnam war, so why was bob dylan chosen as a model for the cathedral's highest and most important statue? also, why did the sculptor not reveal the identity of his model until after it had been placed in position? in all probability the sculptor was having a little 'payback' protest of his own. nidaros cathedral, like all norwegian state churches, is lutheran, and luther's anti-semitism, especially as the son of a bitch grew older, is well documented. yes, sometimes satan comes as a man of peace. i believe dylan, born of jewish parents, would have no objection to being associated with this statue, whether he is afraid of heights or not.
