That is an amazing portrait of Leonard. Captured him perfectly. Great job Geoffrey, and I hope you didn't burn the potatoes.

Very impressive, indeed, for a first attempt with a new medium! (Actually, it is impressive regardless of the number of attempts). I like the softness of watercolour, it gives a feeling of peacefulness when one gazes upon it, as if one is being gently drawn into the artwork. (Mind you, I also like the sometimes more abrupt nature of acrylic, which sort of shouts, "Look at me!!")

Was it a large potato?

the potatoes were of medium size, and didn't disintegrate because they were unskinned. that's where most of the nutrition is stored, as you will know.

thank you for kind remarks to this picture. it is deeply touching to receive such generous and warm-hearted comments. those about you are fortunate to be in the presence of good-natured people who spread positivity and encouragement. special skills seem always to have evaded me; i excel at nothing. therefore any graciousness directed towards my feeble attempts at art is never unappreciated. were i more articulate in the english language it would be easier to exactly express my indebtedness to you.

Thank you for your drawing of a potato. From some angels it looks like a God.

I didn't realize that water colour could be so detailed - nice work Geoffrey!

That is a comment of pure ignorance. As you boil potatoes the water colour changes. Everyone knows that. Except you. In future please confine yourself to comments of impure ignorance. Also pay attention to Geoffrey. Drinking boiled potato water can make one very funny. Like me.

neither did i, cate. too much detail in a painting tends to make it less 'arty' - like it was laboured upon, less spontaneous, more frigid. however, it was just a quick experiment, seeing as i had a tube of black watercolour gathering dust on the shelf and a few minutes to kill while a couple of spuds were boiling.

I'd love to see what you would come up with if you had more than a 'few minutes'. This is WONDERFUL Geoffrey!

Another great one Geoffrey!

I can only imagine what you could come up with if you were baking a potato in the oven?...
xx

This is absolutely beautiful, Geoffrey! I've been lurking around the forum for a few days, but didn't see a lot of activity, so didn't post or introduce myself. Sorry if I'm being rude. If that's an experiment, I can't wait to see your eureka moment! :-)

hello, very nice to 'meet' you, and thank you for the compliment. yes, forum activity fluctuates, but it is generally quiet. i am not sure when/if a 'eureka' moment might arrive, as inspiration is an unharnessable phenomenon, at least with myself. you are not being rude at all, and even if you were i wouldn't mind. fortunately i possess a very tolerant personality, placid and harmonious :-)

That sounds very much like the personality of someone else frequently discussed around here. ;-)

Inspiration seems to work very much the same way with me.
