Not quite sure where to put this but I've just received it in an LC email alert and thought I’d post it for the lc files records –
SONGS ABOUT LEONARD COHEN
These songs are about Leonard Cohen or
mention him either in the title or lyrics.

David Dychovny – actor of The X-Files fame has an album out called Hell Or Highwater released in May 2015 and one of the songs from it "Positively Madison
Avenue" mentions Leonard Cohen by name.

The final track, ‘Positively Madison Avenue,’ is a lament about modern culture while name-dropping Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
Leonard Cohen is named in the last line.

What a surprise, thanks Bev!
Duchovny (whose surname is a slightly modified Russian word for Spiritual) is a good actor :)

I agree Roman! I heard he is going back to Vancouver(my hometown) to film more X Files with Gillian Anderson this fall.
Glad to hear he likes Leonard's music.

And this, Duchovny's character's book, "God Hates Us All" (actually written, after all, and even translated and published in Russia) has the same quote as an epigraph.

And Mr. Duchovny certainly knows how to Californicate! Bit of a guilty pleasure to have enjoyed the series.

Californication is an American comedy-drama television series created by Tom Kapinos, which aired for seven seasons on Showtime from August 13, 2007 to June 29, 2014. The show follows New Yorker Hank Moody (David Duchovny), a troubled novelist who moves to California and suffers from writer's block. His drinking, womanizing and drug abuse complicate his relationships with his longtime lover Karen (Natascha McElhone) and their daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin).

The show's other main characters are Moody's best friend and agent, Charlie Runkle (Evan Handler), and Charlie's wife, Marcy (Pamela Adlon). Recurring themes are sex, drugs and rock and roll, all of which are featured regularly. The show has been nominated for many awards and won several, including winning two Emmy Awards (nominated for two others) and one Golden Globe Award (nominated for five others).

I'm sure lots of you guys have seen it, or maybe not overseas?

Dar, that show was on TV in Australia but I never watched it! Subconsciously, I think I thought of Duchovny as Mulder and wanted to leave it that way!

Thanks Leslie and Roman for that additional info! Interesting name translation. I didn’t know The X-Files were in production again. I was hooked on that show :)
.....The truth is out there!

Here’s a link relating to what Leslie was saying:

plus a tweet and pic from Gillian Anderson:

This repeated line in the song brought a smile to my lips, “By the Dylan who was selling cars”.
I think the link below is why Bob Dylan is in the lyrics of David Duchovny’s song.

This thought just entered my head with a smile - Bob's positively associated with Positively 4th Street and now also with Positively Madison Avenue

Now I don’t know if Leonard’s appearance at the end of the song was viewed by the writer as a good thing or a bad thing!

“Sit me a place at the bar
By the Dylan who was selling cars
Well, I guess I should be goin'
Aw, shit, is that Leonard Cohen?”

Thanks to everybody for the links!

This ...
'Well, I guess I should be goin'
Aw, shit, is that Leonard Cohen?'
... reminds me of the improvised Cohen song 'Mr Cohen Must Be Going' (1974). (I think it's in the 'Bird on A Wire' movie.)
