Saw him live in St. Louis in 1972 (!!) when I lived near Gaslight Square. One of my neighbors was Cynthia Plastercaster. Where I live now is rural; on Monday nights I go to a coffeehouse where a bunch of folks do a jam session. Last night one of the guitarists started a BLUEGRASS version of The Thrill Is Gone--I kid you not-- and the others joined in with fiddles, mandolins, dobro. And the blues break, the part where BB wails on the electric guitar, was done on banjo and harmonica. It was awesome. Wish I'd recorded it...

Good to see your post again Squidgy. I will search for this Bluegrass version of Thrill is Gone. BB & Willie doing Nightlife in 1984...

I doubt you'll find it, or anything like it, online, Kush. This was a bunch of locals sitting around jamming. Seemed like they'd even blown their own minds when they were done. If I can get them to do it again, I'll record and upload it.

great tribute from joe bonamassa.

article written while b.b. was still with us.

...That summer I played about 20 shows with BB.

He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in the music business.

He is the blues, the blues is him. He’s still excited about being on the road. I’m not sure I’m going to be still playing The Ballad of John Henry aged 88.

But I look at BB and that is exactly how I want to live my life. He’s the one who said, you want to watch your money; make sure you get paid right. He helped me write the playbook on what I’m doing now...
