most kind of you, gullivor. there is something very comforting to seeing a name i remember from a long time ago. i thought everyone i knew must have died of old age by now, so thank you for raising your hand :-)

thank you my darling lizzie. as you know i have painted a large number of cohen portraits, all in various sizes and styles. i believe my signature is also on the largest cohen portrait in the world - but who knows for how long? it was nice to rendezvous with you in here; we really ought to make it a habit :-)

Well, whatever you do, don't remove your signature. ;)
Yes, very fine portraits of Leonard and others as well. Indeed!

thank you, karren, lizzie and anny. it is so incredibly pleasant to have your company here! this image has received very much positive feedback on another internet social media site. several people have offered to buy prints - even the original - and others have suggested the image be used on a range of t-shirts. one gentleman said it would make a striking album cover, and just for fun i experimented with a design. please remember this is not a genuine album, merely a figment of my imagination.

A striking cover, indeed. And please sign me up for a print.
Leonard ought to end up with the original, for his heirs to inherit and treasure.f
I love "Old Silhouette."
The "On the Great Western Sky" part eludes me and I'm trying to give it some context for understanding. I suspect you won't assist me in that, but should you feel led, you know I have PM capability ;)

Lizzy, the old silhouette on the great western sky is a partial lyric of one of Cohen's most beautiful songs...

It would make a fabulous album cover or t-shirt, in fact it would look great on lots of things...

Put me down for a print too Geoffrey, it would look great in my monochrome cottage!

Is this what you're looking for Lizzy?

But my darling says
"Leonard, just let it go by
That old silhouette
on the great western sky"
So I pick out a tune
and they move right along
and they're gone like the smoke
and they're gone like this song

There's a cowboy in there, somewhere...

"...Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise

I want to ride to the ridge where the West commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in..."

thank you so much for these recent comments. i don't have the equipment to make proper prints, so that idea must be pushed into a crack in the wailing wall along with all the other prayers up in my head. i do not think it a good idea to offer leonard the original canvas, as that would highlight an element of vanity in my personality - it would suggest i believe it has quality and value. it would mean i was giving something to someone primarily for my sake, not theirs. more often than not, the motive for kindness has a foundation of selfishness. people are kind because they need to feel good, want to act superior, score points with a deity - many reasons. i believe he can live his whole life without suffering any mental breakdowns caused by not having ownership of this canvas. i would send it to him should he ask for it, but obviously that would never happen. he is a humble and self-critical person who never boasts, and to ask for a picture of himself would give an impression of narcissism, it would wrongly suggest he was a self-admirer with a huge conceited ego. so we have a stand-off, neither of us can move. i know he wants it, and he knows i want to give it to him - but each of us are stuck behind psychological barriers of our own device.

"so we have a stand-off"

that's the way it is, cowboy.
