It started as a slow fade,
a bass beat mixed into the rumble
of the earth so low
no one heard it. Small things
were gone at first;
what he had eaten for lunch.
Had he eaten lunch?
A memory of something
that probably didn't happen
but could have
so was all the more special.
It moved into closet spaces
and under stairs spaces.
There was once a photo of a man,
he was looking at the mirror
through a lens or perhaps light.

This morning he woke to a sky
of only greys, the sound
of crows someplace behind him,
an echo of a lake
he had once slept beside.
In the bathroom the water ran
through his fingers.
He did not look up,
he would not look up.
Who needs to see his own face,
to know he is still real.

Hi Cate! I'm doing well just stuck on being quite for awhile now.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

I love his new album. I pre-ordered the first day pre-order was available! I'm sure I wasn't the only one!
When they released "Almost Like the Blues" I listened over and over for about a week and watched every u-tube video I could find.

I like everything on the album but to boil it down to a few I would have to say "A street" mostly because a few years ago I found a u-tube clip of it and liked it immediately.

So I was thrilled hear it on the album. The verse that means the most to me is "The party's over. But I've landed on my feet." I feel that way about my sobriety...thinking about what it was like, what happened and what its like now....I'm a very lucky man. Most people do not get sober. Most don't escape. I did but not unscathed. I suspect I have some brain damage! In spite of that I have a good life beyond anything I could ever of imagined for myself.

"Born in Chains" is another favorite. Leonard is obviously singing of G_d. And of G_ds ability to transform ones life and give it purpose. Which I have experienced in my own recovery and my life.

"You Got Me Singing" Now maybe it goes back to me having brain damage but this song is telling me "G_d" has Leonard singing for him. Writing for him...good or bad it keeps Leonard going, keeps him alive. God gave Leonard a purpose and that is why he does what he does. That's why Leonard speaks to so many people's soul intimately. Leonard pierced though to my soul a long, long time ago before I got sober when I use to be an atheist. He gave me hope. Somehow he talked about a G-d of hope in a lot of his songs that I was able to feel. But at the same time I could feel the darkness...I was living in that darkness but could feel the hope of a merciful loving G_d too! So Leonard leaves us with "a way out" of the darkness. A beginning to believe? A beginning to having faith?

My absolute favorite on this album would be "Did I ever love you" I absolutely love the "country" sound to it. It reminds me of the times Iv questioned my marriage, more like, I questioned myself.

It's mine as well. When I first heard the singers break into some kind of fast past country singing I was thrown but by the end of the song I had fallen in love with the whole thing. I think that this might actually be my favourite album.
