Poem #12

Cold Comfort
Your looks, your words
your beauty, your being
no longer cut through me
like a biting winter wind
They just blow across
the frozen white expanses
of my numbed emptiness
as a vague sensation
a slight disturbance
that hardly ruffles the collar
on the old tear stained overcoat
of my now superb defences
Just what you need to survive
those icy wintry blasts
in that beautiful but chill world
of unrequited love!
Your looks, your words
your beauty, your being
no longer cut through me
like a biting winter wind
They just blow across
the frozen white expanses
of my numbed emptiness
as a vague sensation
a slight disturbance
that hardly ruffles the collar
on the old tear stained overcoat
of my now superb defences
Just what you need to survive
those icy wintry blasts
in that beautiful but chill world
of unrequited love!
