Over the years Bob Dylan has been releasing the wonderful 'Bootleg Series' with outtakes, unreleased material and live tracks.
Here's a cut from the next one:

So how about a 3 CD set of Len rareities?
Suggestions for tracks? Title?

What a fascinating idea Rodin, thanks for posting.
However, unreleased Leonard Cohen material is nothing like as interesting as cute pictures of cats.

fascinating and interesting idea Rodin, thks for posting.
why don't you start with some suggestions ? (and the rest will follow...?)
it's frustrating being ignored and it's not polite (I know the feeling)
now.... can somebody pls help me with following :
Bird on a wire dvd live in europe '72 - UK 1972 classic film GBP 12.99 (which is not available anymore)
Bird on a wire dvd Tony Palmer's classic film GBP 22.69 (which I bought)
what is the difference between them and why the price difference ?

It's high time that the obvious tracks that were circulating in the Nineties got an official release. Off the top of my head...
Billy Sunday (Blues of the Jews)
Misty Blue
Die Gedanken Sind Frei
To Love Somebody
Can't Help Falling in Love
Guerero (early Iodine)
Kevin Barry
Banks of Marble
Everybody's Child
Red River Valley
Whither Thou Goest
Silent Night
Elvis's Rolls Royce
They could also include:
The John Peel BBC sessions, and (if we're really lucky) the tracks that Sylvie Simmons mentions in her book, plus the concert at the mental hospital (all of these are of particular historical interest).
If they dare, they could include the live "Diamonds in the Mine" ("I told you this in the days of Vietnam etc...). Plus it wouldn't hurt to include:
Blessed Is the Memory
Storeroom
Do I Have To Dance All Night
Never Any Good
Apart from the odd title that I've no doubt overlooked, that's most of the key rarer material covered. Personally, I don't need endless repletion of live stuff, but there's a version of "Sisters of Mercy" with Raffi Hakopian on violin that is particularly exquisite, and should be included.

Palmer recut it from 'lost' reels.

It would be nice to get those songs all on one bootleg CD

You're missing the point.
I am suggesting an official album, with the best quality rareities and hidden gems in proper packaging. There will be stuff in the vaults that none of us has.
It would be great to hear those duets with Bob Dylan, for example.

would be great but ultimately it's about Leonard giving permission.
I wonder whether he's too much of a 'perfectionist' to feel comfortable about such a release.
hope though eventually the light shines through the cracks

No I get your point, the problem is with your wording of "bootleg" .
All the ones I mentioned are as such and bootleg cd's.
Dyan's bootlegs are legendary and are mainly from his never ending tour, much the same as the ones I mentioned for LC.
If you want an official album, then it won't be a bootleg.....

Can I suggest you do some reading before posting?
Take a look at this and look at the title.

Thanks for the suggestion and I am fully aware of Bobness and his "bootleg" series, I have a few but in the case you mention, I think Columbia/Sony have taken a right liberty with the wording of "Bootleg". And as for Bob's "series of bootlegs", it's a laughable title. They are little more than songs put on an album for public sale, hardly a bootleg in the real meaning of the word.
Look at this to get the meaning of a real Bootleg.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootleg_recording
So it appears we see the word bootleg differently......

Language is about context, that's why I made the deliberate reference to the Dylan series of CDs.
I don't need to look at Wiki to know what a bootleg is.

Then if you knew, why did you use the word bootleg for the purpose you did?
Here's just one example of Bob and management tempting folks with the word "Bootleg"
No Direction Home:
http://www.bobdylan.com/us/music/bootle ... ction-home
As we all know, this was an excellent Martin Scorsese film, with an album taken from the title and all above board and totally legal. All the records to my knowledge had been on albums... Bootleg? I really don't think so.
