This isn't news, because Stylus Magazine apparently posted the article in 2006, but still:
Top Ten Funniest Leonard Cohen Songs
Just to show that there's no accounting for some people's taste, "Who By Fire" made the list... not because the song is actually funny, but because the author has free-associated a potty joke with it.
Since this was written before "Old Ideas" came out, maybe we should lobby the author to edit out "Who By Fire" and put "Anyhow" on the list instead.

Clearly the writer has never heard "Billy Sunday" or "Never Any Good"!

I didn't get this description of Leaving Greensleeves.
Is it something wrong with my sense of humour?
Or is it a serious song - with Cohenesque bitter irony, which is almost inevitable - but still an anthem of crawling and frustration?
Personally I dislike that two songs with clear references to abortion are invluded in this list. One man has written that something is wrong with the ancient Western code, (as for me) that's an illustration of this idea.
And yes, Who by Fire...

True. He also misses the funniest verse from "Tonight Will Be Fine" (live version):
I've looked into the mirrors in numberless places,
They all smile back at me with their troublesome gazes.
In the cards that they dealt me, there weren't any aces,
And the horses never listen to me at the races.

Isn't it faces, rather than gazes, John?
Or just a different version?
