Julie Christensen is going to be singing in Long Beach, CA this Sunday at 2 pm. 7 1/2 miles from my home. My weekend plans are firming up nicely.

I did go to this performance. Lovely Americana music (she's relocating to Nashville, BTW), most of the songs were either from fellow songwriters at a songwriters' camp she's been attending or from her new CD Weeds Like Us. She only did one Leonard Cohen song, the next-to-last in her concert, and she joked, "And it's not Hallelujah!" She said how proud she was to have sung with Cohen, and then sang a glorious "Anthem," accompanying herself on guitar.

I bought the "Weeds Like Us" CD from her after the show, and told her that I'd gone up to Oakland to see Leonard Cohen live. She said she' was happy to see that they were beginning to sing "Joan of Arc" again. She was proud of having sung on that one; it was like doing Ibsen every night... "And I'm supposed to go back to the green room and have normal conversations after that?"
