Not Human

I’ve never felt more scared and vulnerable
And so betrayed, I do not feel betrayal
I do know there’s a number
Tattooed upon my back, sensors and rings
In places where I cannot even see.
So why have they visited this on me?
I am a person, one who is not human
Not born for the amusement of someone,
A sleek and shiny beauty my misfortune
That, and my weaknesses for play.
So here I sleep and breathe in crap
I need, as they well know, to roam the sea
In skies reflecting blue, unbounded by a pool
Tasting the salt, dawn in my eyes
Calling to the sleeping sun
Chasing the little fishes and algae
Leaping and making love with new companions.
I’ve had enough - ever since day one
Of dancing for the hordes of needy children
Around this grubby bruising little hole
They dare to call a humane dolphinarium.

This is the second poem you have posted recently about the rhinoceros. I am beginning to think you have an obsession with the animal.

As Leonard says in one of his unwritten songs "the penis mightier than the sword"
New Rhinoceros poem

that I would love
to see the dolphin penis wearing a glove
(note to Ed. Sorry, I think maybe one line may be longer than the other, but I didn't want to be foreskin the rhythm method)

.. not to disparage your exceptional rhyme, but I'm doubtful a glove would fit. [given what I just witnessed]
.. as to the puns.. I know you have those there to make the "sword" line look good by way of comparison.
[well done, fish]

I'm very pleased to see that you care about animals/mammals/sentient beings that are being exploited by humans for their self-aggrandizement.
I'm pleased to see someone caring enough to take of their personal time to try to capture the wrongness of it all and share your feelings about it with others.
The images you've created for what the dolphins really need to have their own meaningful life on this earth are moving.
I need, as they well know, to roam the sea
In skies reflecting blue, unbounded by a pool
Tasting the salt, dawn in my eyes
Calling to the sleeping sun

If only THEY could have a say. People rationalize that they live longer in captivity. Really!?! So might imprisoned people, given 'good care and diet and exercise' by their captors. "Give me liberty or give me death" was a call made with purpose... yet, we do so much less for our animals, whose intelligence has barely been tapped in the way of understanding.
I hope you keep on writing and giving voice to the animals.
